Community Newsletters

The following is an alphabetical list of community newsletters that cover areas of the city, and a few that cover particular interest areas. There are many more newsletters out there produced by community organisations, so it is by no means comprehensive! Click on the newsletter name for an on-line link to further information.

Bevendean Bulletin

Keeps up to date news and events happening in . It is written by and for local residents. In order to see the newsletters, people must be subscribed to the service.

BHOGG Newsletter

Brighton & Organic Gardening Group encourages and supports organic gardeners in the local community. Their newsletters are free to view online. Contact [email protected]

Bricycles

Bricycles campaigns for cyclists in and Hove. Their newsletters are free to view online. Contact [email protected]

Brighton Amnesty Newsletter

Brighton & Hove Amnesty is dedicated to raising awareness of human rights abuses all over the world. All of their newsletter are free to view online.

Brighton Society

The Brighton Society aims to conserve and improve the amenities of Brighton & Hove. They have up to date news articles about the buildings around Brighton & Hove. The society asks for a subscription fee in order to receive the newsletter. Contact info@brighton- society.org.uk

Brunswick Place Residents Association

Local residents group which offers support and a collective voice to everyone living in Brunswick Place, Hove. Their website provides up to date news that is relevant to the residents of Brunswick Place.

Brighton Unemployed Centre Families Project provides practical support, education and recreation for those in poor housing, claimants, unwaged people and those on low incomes. The centre produces a quarterly magazine. Contact [email protected]

Due East

Due East is the working name of the Neighbourhood Council for , Manor Farm and the Bristol Estate. The website provides relevant and up to date news for the residents of these areas.

The Family Grapevine

The Family Grapevine is a free family directory with useful information for families with children of all ages. They publish three times a year in March, July and November and is distributed throughout Brighton & Hove. Contact [email protected] or 01444 811648.

Fiveways Directory

The Fiveways Directory is a monthly magazine that is delivered to homes in the Fiveways community with the purpose of connecting local people with local businesses, activities and residents. Contact [email protected] or 01273 551021

Friends of Blakers Park

The Friends are dedicated to protecting and enhancing the community’s green space. They have a newsletter that is free to view online and publish news about the park on their website. Contact [email protected] or [email protected]

Friends of Hospitals

Friends of Brighton & Hove Hospitals work with the local NHS to enhance patient experience by raising money for equipment and services. They have a newsletter that is free to view online and publish news on their website. Contact [email protected]

Friends of Palmeira & Adelaide

Friends of Palmeira & Adelaide are a local residents association for the Palmeira and Adelaide area. The aims of the association are to act for the residents in preserving and improving the buildings, gardens and general amenity of the area. Newsletters are available to members only (free membership) but their website does provide local and up to date news that is relevant to the residents.

The Friends of Preston Park issue a newsletter several times a year to promote the protection and improvement of the park and to involve the local community. They also publish news about the park on their website.

Gscene

Gscene provides the latest News, Politics, Features, Reviews & Listings for the Gay, Lesbian, Bi-sexual & Transgender community.

Hangleton Harbinger

A free bi – monthly newspaper delivered to the residents of . Contact Edna Mead [email protected]. They do not have a current website.

Hanover Directory

The Hanover Directory goes to 3,200 Hanover homes every month as well as businesses in the area. Its aim is to connect local people with local businesses. Contact [email protected] or 01273 551021.

Healthwatch Brighton and Hove Magazine Healthwatch Brighton & Hove produce a monthly health and wellbeing magazine for the city. Contact [email protected]

Hollingdean News

Hollingdean News is a community newsletter is published quarterly and is published and distributed by Hollingdean residents. Contact [email protected] or 07963 301 570.

Hove Civic Society

The object of the society is to stimulate community interest in the beauty, history and character of Hove and its surroundings. The society produces quarterly newsletters. Contact Helmut Lusser on 01273 884877 or email [email protected].

Hove Park Living 3,000 copies are printed and distributed through doors and local businesses each month in order to connect local people with local businesses. Contact [email protected]

Kemp Town Society The Society is a charitable society formed to conserve the Grade 1 listed Kemp Town Estate. Its newsletters are free to view online.

Updated November 2015 Kingscliffe Society Newsletter The Kingscliffe Society is an independent charity dedicated to conserving and enhancing the East Cliff conservation area of Brighton. Their members receive quarterly newsletters informing them of building and licensing developments in the area. Contact David Hainsworth [email protected] Montpelier and Clifton Hill Association The association is dedicated to protecting their conservation area from unwelcome developments. They issue three newsletters a year to their members who live in the area. Local Action Team Newsletter The LAT aims to raise community safety awareness in Moulsecoomb, Bates Estate and Higher Bevendean. They publish community news on their website and also have a newsletter. Neighbourhood Care Scheme Newsletter The NCS newsletter contains good examples of what volunteers and scheme members do together. The website also publishes recent news about the scheme. Runner The North Laine Runner is the bi-monthly newsletter of the North Laine Community Association delivered free to every household and shop in the North Laine area by a team of street representatives. Patch News The website of the Friends of William Clarke Park (AKA “The Patch”) provides news about the park and promotes community events and activities in and around the park. Contact [email protected] or call 07944 152 706.

Peacehaven E-News Magazine Town Council publishes a monthly E-News Magazine to deliver local news to Peacehaven residents. Telephone: 01273 585493

Portslade Community Forum The website publishes local news and events happening in . Contact [email protected]

The Pensioner The Pensioner magazine is written for and by the older people of Brighton & Hove 3 times a year. The magazine is distributed by volunteers who deliver copies to sheltered housing, community nurses and older people’s groups. In addition, Brighton and Hove City Council distribute the magazine to libraries and Age UK Brighton and Hove also keep copies in its

The Preston Pages provides listings of local businesses, events and services for the Preston Park/Fiveways area. Contact [email protected]

Prestonville Postblog The Prestonville Postblog is an online blog that is provided by the Prestonville Community Association. The blog provides community news and encourages participation from local residents on a wide range of topics.

QPVC Newsletter

The QPVC newsletter is published quarterly. It is distributed to households on the Craven Vale and Queens Park estates.

Queen's Park Living

Queen’s Park Living is delivered to 2,500 local homes every month as well as local businesses. Its aim is to connect local people with local businesses every month. Contact [email protected] or 01273 551021

Rottingdean Village News

The Village News is a bi-monthly magazine all about Rottingdean, listing news, events and featured articles. The magazine is delivered free to every household and available to buy from outlets in the village. It is a non – profit making magazine established for the benefit of the community of Rottingdean and is run entirely by volunteers.

Round Hill Reporter

The Round Hill Reporter is the quarterly newsletter of the Round Hill Society and is delivered to all homes in the Round Hill conservation area. Contact [email protected]

Saltdean Residents' Association

Saltdean Residents’ Association’s interest is to promote and safeguard the interests of the Saltdean residents. It is possible to subscribe to their newsletters on the website. Contact [email protected] or 01273 301502.

The Scroll

The Scroll is the local bi – monthly newspaper for Hangleton, Knoll and West Hove. It is delivered to the residents within the Knoll area, Hove. Contact [email protected] or 07917 154666

Updated November 2015 West Hove Directory The West Hove Directory goes to 5,500 local homes every month as well as local businesses in the area. Its aim is to connect local people with local businesses and activities in order to create a greater community spirit and more prosperity. Contact [email protected]

The Whistler The Whistler is an online and printed magazine and aims to keep residents of the West Hill and Seven Dials area of Brighton in touch with each other and to present a mix of news and comment. They publish six times a year: Feb/March, April/May, June/July, Aug/Sept, Oct/Nov and Dec/Jan.
