Students from Landing Elementary School enjoyed a delicious snack at the school’s Welcome Back celebration on Sept. 18. By Carol Griffin Sea Cliff's annual golf outing drew almost 100 golfers who drove their shots up and down Sea Cliff driveways, across yards and fields as they participated through the village in Sea Cliff's 4th Annual Golf Outing. Mike and Gwynne Lennon put the day together assisted at the tournament by The Good of the Village Association under the direction of President Sheila Wenger that will benefit from money raised by the event. John Canning presided over the awards ceremony, while Jim Foote dressed as Teddy Roosevelt gave everyone some of TR's words of advice in the matter and Anna Jeannet "the Walking Lady" helped distribute the awards. There were 21 foursomes and walkers that brought to the total of almost 100 participants on the course. The twenty- four holes and numerous walk through and refreshment stops were a result of the overwhelming generosity of village homeowners who opened their gates for the event. Winners included Men's Master, John Jenney, Women's Master, Kate Murphy, Men's Runner-up, Dan McDermott, Women's Runner Up, Jill Salditt, Twelve Hole Lowest Score, Nick Virgilio, Twelve Hole Lowest Score, Susan O'Brien, Hole in One, Jonathan Waechter, Susan O'Brian and young James Camardella. On Saturday, Co-Chairs Carlyle Dunaway and George Stimola, welcomed guests along with the Rector Rev Mark Fitzhugh, who said gave a brief prayer. His prayers were answered as the weather was warm and sunny for both Saturday and Sunday. The Petting Zoo, face painting and games for children kept the little ones happy, while parent shopped for bargains in the many booths chaired by volunteers from the church. There was furniture, objets d'art, antiques, jewelry, books, toys, Christmas items, home furnishings, children's clothing and much more. Entertainment on Saturday was provided by St John's Music Director Eric Milnes, who was also the MC, and the musical group Serve Somebody, internationally acclaimed recording artists, performed songs by Bob Dylan, George Harrison, Joni Mitchell, and Bruce Springsteen. The Gordon Highlanders bagpipe band from Locust Valley, performed in the afternoon. The fair continued on Sunday afternoon, but without the musical entertainment or food booths. Volunteers prepare for many months to make the fair a success ,and a portion of the proceeds every year go to outreach, helping local charities, including the homeless shelter and soup kitchen, in addition to national and international charities.
