Unfortunately, he won't be back after SLAMBOREE. His banter with TONY SCHIVANTE & LARRY ZYBSZKO was almost as good as the missing JESSIE VENTURA's. Again, these "old timers" have show more LIFE than any of the current crop of "Superstars" in ANY league! If only we could turn back the clock . WHAT YOU MISSED: TONY GILLIAM quickly interviewed DAVEY BOY SMITH on Smith's way to a limo . DUSTIN RHODES looked great -- almost as good as DUSTY in his prime -- in an easy win over TEX SLAZENGER . a report that due to a mysterious injury, RICK RUDE will replace KENSUKI SUSAKI as the challenger to Rhodes for the U.S. Title in the Computerized Challenger series . THE MASKED ASSASSIN joined TONY SCHIVANTE & LARRY ZYBSZKO before a RON SIMMONS interview . during the interview PAUL ORNDORFF charged the ring and ripped up a fan's "PAULA" shirt . THE COLE TWINS defeated TONY VINCENT & MUSTAFA SAIED . A SLAMBOREE CONTROL CENTER; nothing new . ROBERT PARKER came out before a "VIVACIOUS" VAN HAMMER match vs. RAGE of THE WRECKING CREW; when Hammer looked terrible Parker went crazy and put away the contract he was going to offer him . afterwards Hammer put his hands on Parker, and Parker claimed that it was the worst mistake that Hammer ever made . DAVEY BOY SMITH defeated FURY of THE WRECKING CREW . a replay of STING's SLAM JAM PROMO . THE BLACKHARTS defeated JOEY MAGGS & SCOTT ALLEN . LOS DOS HOMBRES, a masked team from Mexico came out and challenged (through an interpreter), THE HOLLYWOOD BLONDES . I won't comment on the story the WCW was pushing behind their presence . RICKY STEAMBOAT came out during that interview and wished them luck . JIM NIEDHART destroyed SHANGHAI PIERCE . BARRY WINDHAM was a no-show for this week's "A FLAIR FOR THE GOLD" . THE HOLLYWOOD BLONDES announced their "BRUSH WITH GREATNESS TOUR" then announced tonight SGT. BUDDY LEE PARKER & JOE CRUZ would get a shot at "greatness" . after the match they said they'd face Los Dos Hombres on tonight's WCW Main Event . it was scheduled to be JOHNNY B. BADD against MAX PAYNE, but Payne attacked Badd before the bell and applied his "PAIN KILLER" move on BADD . BRAD ARMSTRONG made the save and then attempted to wrestle Payne before needing to be saved by Badd . WCW WORLD WIDE WRESTLING 5/9/93 WHAT YOU MISSED: JOHNNY B. BADD put the "KISS THAT DON'T MISS" on DAVE LYNCH . another review of the CACTUS JACK vs. BIG VAN VADER incident . SCOTT NORTON defeated TC CARTER . Norton did an interview to remind everyone that he is still in the WCW . a SLAMBOREE CONTROL CENTER; nothing new . an update on the Computerized Challenge; KENSUKI SUSAKI is out, RICK RUDE is in for the U.S. Title Match vs. DUSTIN RHODES next week . RUDE destroyed ROD HAGEN . Rude grabbed the microphone then had the ring announcer say that "Ravishing Rick Rude wants all you to know that he thinks all of you are not worth wasting his breath on" . a replay of this week's "A FLAIR FOR THE GOLD" . in the COMPUTERIZED CONTENDERS CHALLENGE MATCH: THE HOLLYWOOD BLONDES & the team of MARCUS ALEXANDER BAGWELL & TOO COLD SCORPIO went to a draw . WWF SUPERSTARS OF WRESTLING 5/9/93 WHAT YOU MISSED: KAMALA & THE NASTY BOYS lost to MR. HUGHES & MONEY INC. when Kamala was confused about pinning IRS and IRS rolled him up for the pin . THE EVENT CENTER is now FACE TO FACE; in my area it features JAQUES ROUGEAU interviewing competitors for the up coming house show matches at once via video tape . another promo for BILLY & BART . SEAN DAKOTA lost to YOKOZUNA . a KOTR update: no new matches announced . STEVE VEGA lost to CRUSH . an update on the LUNA VACHON vs. SHERRI MARTEL feud . Luna reminds me of a female ULTIMATE WARRIOR in interviews . KOTR QUALIFIER: RAZOR RAMON over TITO SANTANNA . interesting, it looked like ring announcer MIKE MCGERTH called Razor Ramon something I can't print here after he entered the ring and she put down the microphone . I love lip reading . I'm sort of glad I don't go to the live shows at Hershey Park, I wouldn't want to sit through this type of match every month . JAQUES ROUGEAU interviewed GIANT GONZLAS; I noticed that they've changed Gonzlas's ring attire .

Honey, Master of Science Utah State University, 2020 Major Professor: Dr. Eric César Morales Program: American Studies This paper examines the shifting portrayals of Pacific Islanders in World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) across three generations. As both a popular and historically racially problematic venue, WWE’s politically incorrect programming has played an underappreciated and under examined role in representing the USA. Although 4 many different groups have been portrayed by gross stereotypes in WWE, this paper uses the family of Dwayne “the Rock” Johnson—the Samoan Dynasty—as a case study. The WWE originally presented Pacific Islanders using the most offensive stereotypes, and the first two generations of the Samoan Dynasty had to “play Indian” or cosign onto gross representations of their people to be recognized by American audiences unfamiliar with representations of Pacific Islanders.

Read Ebook {PDF EPUB} Bluegrass Brawlers The Story of Professional Wrestling in Louisville by John Cosper ISBN 13: 9781500147655. Bluegrass Brawlers: The Story of Professional Wrestling in Louisville. Cosper, John ; Bolin, Kenny. This specific ISBN edition is currently not available. As the Attitude Era drew to a close in the early 2000s, the WWE already had an eye to the future. The stars who would succeed the Rock, Stone Cold, and the Undertaker were already well on their way to the big time, and Louisville, Kentucky had a front row seat to the future. They were all here – Cena, Orton, Batista, Lesnar. They were all on display every Wednesday night for free at Ohio Valley Wrestling’s Davis Arena. Alongside established stars like the Big Show and Mark Henry, the Superstars of Tomorrow trained under the watchful eye of Jim Cornette and Danny Davis, waiting for their moment. More would follow in their footsteps. Some were already close by, like the brash young heel lighting it up every week for Southern Indiana’s IWA Mid-South promotion, CM Punk. As stunning as that time in history now appears, it was only one of many golden wrestling eras for Louisville, Kentucky, a city that has always loved its fight sports. “Bluegrass Brawlers: The Story of Professional Wrestling in Louisville” covers them all, from the earliest days when wrestling was king to the vibrant independent scene of today. Beginning in 1880 with tales of circus stars and barn-storming grapplers, “Bluegrass Brawlers” chronicles the evolution of a sport and the city that embraced it.

  • Claims Department 27
Vice is doing a series of documentaries about the heavier aspects of the history of Pro Wrestling called The Dark Side of the Ring. These docs are taking a look at tragedies in the wrestling, and there are quite a few to choose from. The first one they released, and one of the finest true crime docs if you like the human side instead of the hard core investigative side, is about Bruiser Brody. And thus, having finished watching it, I realized I’d never done an issue dedicated to him. This issue, more than any other Claims Department I’ve ever done, will be the story of what it means to be a genius, to live in a world that has rules that are not those of the outside world. This is a story of an American who was a giant star in Japan, partly because he had so much trouble getting along with promoters in the US. This issue tells the story of a man who was an incredibly brawler, who bled in so many matches, who helped re-define what brawling was in an era when wrestling was completely being redefined. He was also an amazing wres- tler, could go on the ground , work a match that would make you believe he was a former Olympian. In short, it is the story of a man who was a master of his craft, and a man who knew he was a master of his craft. Yes, it has a tragic ending. In other news, I’m happy to report that the Boys are turning 4 shortly, and that’s a good thing! JP is reading.
