Cathedral Honour for Vivien SEPTEMBER 2016

Reverend Canon Vivien Elphick has been installed as an Honorary Canon of Cathedral.

At the service in Leicester Cathedral, Bishop Martyn said “Canons are people who are invited to bring their wisdom and skills to the Cathedral to help it fulfil its mission in the community. Canons came from different backgrounds and brought the breadth of their Measham Parish 3 experience from the wider Diocese to inspire and encourage.” Council Column

Vivien, who was ordained 26 years ago, moved from to North West Leicestershire Snippets of News, 4 10 years ago to be team rector of the newly created Woodfield Team. Netherseal Annual Garage Sale On Sunday 9 th October the above will hold their annual garage sale when over 40 garages/tables will be selling unwanted items. There will be a wide range of goods from cakes to caravans – yes caravans! Further informaon on 07092 084359.

North West Leicestershire District Council – Energy Scheme The above are helping residents buy electricity/gas together to reduce the cost. It is a simple scheme NWLDC are offering. Interested pares register at www.nwleics.gov.uk/switch or call 01530 454545 to sign up with a Council Advisor before 11 th October.

Once registered you’ll join thousands of others in similar schemes across the country in a collecve aucon where energy suppliers bid for the registraons. The cheapest supplier wins the aucon and the Council send each registered household their energy offer. The Council stress you are under no obligaon to accept the offer but if you do then the switch is done automacally by the new supplier. It is sll possible to sign up if you are on a pre- payment meter or only use electricity.

Appleby Magna Film Club The new season of the above Club kicks off on Friday 21 st October with showings at 2.30pm and 8.00pm of ‘Mustang’. The Club is based in Appleby Magna Church Hall .

‘Mustang’ is a Turkish film with subtles which sees five teenage girls seen playing innocently with boys on the beach and are then confined by their scandalised guardians. Forced marriages are arranged for the elder sisters but the younger girls rebel to avoid the same fate.

Above is a picture of Measham & District Ambulance. This vehicle was bought by contribuons from the people of Measham as a memorial to Dr G S Hart in 1923. The ambulance was a dodge and although originally had solid tyres was changed to pneumac to give the paent a more comfortable ride. The cost of the ambulance was £418.16s.Od. The Colliery company acquired the ambulance in 1940 and used it ll 1942.

Measham Museum needs volunteers to help with the running and manning of the establishment and with this in mind the Museum will be closed on Saturday aernoons from Saturday September 28 th ll further noce.

Cra Fair – Balefield Line The weekend of the 24 th /25 th September will see the Goods’ Shed at Market Bosworth Balefield Line Staon host a Cra Fair.

There will be a variety of stalls including jewellery, cards, pictures, perfumes, soaps, sweets and cakes.

Refreshments will be available from the Tea Room.

Entry to the site is free upon presentaon of a valid rail cket or £3.00 for adults – children Free .

Measham Leisure Centre:-

Teams Needed – 5 A Side Soccer Teams are required for Tuesday evening 5 A Side Leagues run by Soccer Sixes . Players must be over 14 years. Inquiries call Chris on 01530 274061.

Metafit Class The above class runs every Wednesday between 6.00pm – 6.30pm . The calorie burning class is run by Laura Wilkinson and costs £5.40 per session or £25 per month on the Membership Scheme.

September Membership Offer No joining fee is required in September when joining the Measham Leisure Centre Membership Scheme. This offer also includes a free gym inducon. Membership is unlimited and includes gym and fitness classes at Measham for just £25.00 per month.

Junior Gym Classes The above classes for the 11 – 14 year old age group run every Monday and Friday aernoon . It is a great way to introduce your child to going to the gym at an early age.
