In 16 The QIPCO British Champions Fillies & Mares Stakes racing terms the day is still in its infancy having been first run in 2011 and yet, in that time it has become firmly established as one of the world's greatest racedays thanks to the tremendous support of our 21 The Queen Elizabeth II Stakes (sponsored by QIPCO) sponsors QIPCO, who have been with us from the start. It is thanks to their generosity that today boasts a card which is unrivalled in the British racing calendar, with an unprecedented four Group 1 contests and a 27 The QIPCO total prize fund in excess of £4 million, making it by far and away the most valuable in the UK.

COURSE MAP

THE ULTIMATE RACEDAY Since 2016, a contingency plan has been in place to use the inner flat course in the event of the regular outer course becoming unraceable.

10.30AM GATES OPEN* The decision was a straightforward one, hence taken earlier than in race conditions (which anticipated a Friday or Saturday decision). He ran a Sands of Mali (FR) 4 Richard Fahey Phoenix & Cool Silk P'ship blinder to be third to in the Commonwealth Cup at Royal Ascot, considering he fluffed the start, and built on that when making virtually all the running in the Betfair Sprint Cup at Haydock on his latest start. MAGICAL Trainer: Aidan O’Brien QIPCO British Champions Series wins: 1

Magical was one of six runners for Aidan O’Brien in the QIPCO British Champions Fillies & Mares Stakes on Champions Day last year but was in a league of her own as she ran out a decisive winner. She has spent much of the past year chasing home the outstanding Enable but, when that rival has not been around, has usually taken advantage. She won the by seven lengths at the Curragh in May and was not extended to land the QIPCO Irish Champion Stakes at Leopardstown last month. She was last seen finishing a commendable fifth in the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe. She is a fabulous filly.

ADDEYBB Trainer: William Haggas QIPCO British Champions Series wins: 0

Addeybb has won half of his 14 races, his only defeat in three starts at Ascot coming on this day 12 months ago in the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes (Sponsored by QIPCO). Stepping him up to a mile and a quarter this year has shown him in an even better light. He gained an impressive success in the at Royal Ascot in June and last time out was a smooth winner of the Group 3 Rose Of Lancaster Stakes at Haydock. He is in his element on soft ground.

DEIRDRE Trainer: Mitsuru Hashida QIPCO British Champions Series wins: 1

Deirdre created history when winning the Qatar Nassau Stakes under Oisin Murphy at the Qatar Goodwood Festival in August. Her victory was the first by a Japanese- trained horse in a QIPCO British Champions Series race. The only previous time a horse trained in had won a Group 1 contest in Britain was when scooped the 2000 July Cup at Newmarket. Deirdre showed her 20/1 Goodwood win was no fluke on her latest start when an unlucky fourth to Magical in the QIPCO Irish Champion Stakes. Her connections will be hoping for a cleaner trip in today’s race.

OISIN MURPHY Link to the Championship table http://greatbritishracing.com/championships CHAMPION JOCKEY 2019 If imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, then Oisin Murphy paid his weighing-room rival and reigning title-holder Silvestre de Sousa a major compliment in the way he set out from the start to dominate this year's Jockeys' Championship.

In the same way that De Sousa had dominated his 2015, 2017 and 2018 title-winning seasons, industriously accepting every opportunity offered, Murphy was firing on all cylinders from as soon as he arrived back in the UK in 2019 after successful spells in Japan and Dubai.

Two trebles, five winners at Goodwood’s May meeting, and victory on Telecaster in the Al Basti Equiworld at York were among the highlights as he quickly put distance between himself and the rest.

Three clear at the end of the opening month, that gap had grown to seven within the first week of June.

However, rather than it being the reigning champion who ultimately threw down the biggest challenge, it was Danny Tudhope who lit up the Flat season in midsummer and even became the bookmakers’ favourite for the title - as well as taking the lead.

Tudhope produced such a pronounced mid-season spurt, kickstarted by four memorable successes at Royal Ascot, that for some time, racing looked forward to the prospect of a real battle between the pair. Following a total of 39 victories in August, Murphy’s lead was back up to 18, and there has been no letting up in his But Murphy, who admits that he feared at that point that he was losing grip on his first Championship, rallied. By the end fearsome pace ever since. Tudhope’s achievements are in no way diminished and his developing relationships with of July, he was back in front, his victories including Veracious in the Tattersalls Falmouth Stakes. a couple of the biggest Newmarket yards suggest strongly that further big-race success is sure to come his way. But, ultimately, he has met an unstoppable force in the 24-year-old who will be crowned Champion It was back to business in August for Murphy - the month beginning with one of the wins that defined his season when Jockey on QIPCO British Champions Day. Deirdre broke new ground for a Japanese-trained runner in Europe when claiming the Qatar Nassau Stakes at the Qatar Goodwood Festival. Having taken the Al Basti Equiworld Dubai with Threat at York, Murphy landed an even more valuable prize when King’s Lynn, owned by Her Majesty The Queen, took the Weatherbys Bank sales race at Doncaster last month.

Even his old ally Benbatl managed to contribute towards the tally when returning from the sidelines to take the Shadwell Joel Stakes at Newmarket.

The 2019 Flat season, of course, featured the talents of many other talented jockeys, none more so than Frankie Dettori. Twice the age of the 2019 Champion, but indisputably as brilliant as ever this year, he set a new personal career-best for Group 1 victories in a year and bagged a host of top races with performances showcasing all of his tactical astuteness.

Tom Marquand has made it clear that he would one day love to be able to throw down his own challenge for the Championship and the 21-year-old, Champion Apprentice in 2015, has enjoyed an excellent year.

Among his biggest wins in 2019 was the last-gasp victory of Who Dares Wins in the Northumberland Plate and the rider is looking forward to returning to Australia this winter, to build upon the experience he gained in the country 12 months ago.

He looks sure to be a factor in next year’s Championship, while former title-holders Jim Crowley and Silvestre de Sousa have both also enjoyed strong campaigns. The former finished the year strongly, while the latter’s year was hampered by injuries sustained in a fall at Chelmsford City in August.

Whilst the excitement is already building for next season, Oisin Murphy is the name on everyone’s lips as we reach the climax of the 2019 Flat Jockeys’ Championship – and deservedly so.

With less than 10 wins until he loses his allowance, it won’t be long until Davis rides out his claim, but his popularity is demonstrated by the fact that he has had well over 500 rides this year and his bright prospects for the future are there for all to see.

Along with Jane Elliott, Megan Nicholls is one of two female riders in the top 10 and her year was capped by a third consecutive victory in the Silk Series championship, specifically for female riders, meaning that she remains the only rider to have taken the 15-race series.

Among the other jockeys to have enjoyed particularly successful campaigns and achieved strong finishing positions in the Championship are Harrison Shaw, Ben Robinson, Phil Dennis and Rowan Scott, all of whom have been employed to good effect by powerful northern stables throughout the campaign.

Robinson and Dennis have in recent months ridden out their allowances and lost their apprentice status, but the rides and winners have understandably continued to flow for both.

The future looks bright for the class of 2019.

OISIN MURPHY AGE - 24 YEARS OLD | 12-TIME GROUP 1 WINNING FLAT JOCKEY Oisin is one of the undoubted stars of the world, having burst onto the scene to become Champion Apprentice jockey at the age of just 19. After a stellar 2018 where he won nine Group 1 races, Oisin will become the youngest Champion Jockey since Ryan Moore in 2006 when he is crowned on QIPCO British Champions Day.

In 2013, Oisin became a serious prospect to look out for when securing a sensational 9,260/1 four-timer on day.

Coming from a family steeped in racing tradition (his uncle is Grand National winning jockey, turned trainer, Jim Culloty), Oisin has been described by those in racing as a “rare young talent” and, unsurprisingly, it wasn’t long before he was snapped up to become the retained jockey for Qatar Racing.

2018 was a landmark year for Oisin, with a remarkable nine Group 1s. He claimed his first British Group 1 win on Roaring Lion for Qatar Racing in the Coral-Eclipse at Sandown, and that partnership went on to claim three further Group 1s last year, including the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes (sponsored by QIPCO).

This year, Oisin has two Group 1 winners to his name, in the Tattersalls Falmouth Stakes at Newmarket (Veracious) in July and the Qatar Nassau Stakes at Goodwood (Deirdre) in August.
