Dear Friends of the Horse Show,

With great pleasure, I welcome you back to Lexington for our 82nd Lexington Junior League Charity Horse Show! The Junior League of Lexington and staff are privileged to host the best of the best Saddlebred talent and cannot thank you enough for your continued support. We are thankful for the enormous impact your participation has on our community. Since 1937, your presence has helped us raise funds to enrich the lives of children and families here in the Bluegrass. With your partnership as a patron, exhibitor, or sponsor you allow us to award numerous grants back to non-profit organizations in need as well as provide thousands of hours of community service. We are honored to host you and celebrate another year as the largest outdoor Saddlebred Horse Show.

The 2018 Horse Show marks a new beginning for the Lexington Junior League Charity Horse Show. We will be hosting our first show in the Rolex Arena at the Kentucky Horse Park. We cherish our memories of the last 81 years at the Red Mile, but we look forward to the new opportunities that the Ken- tucky Horse Park will provide. The Horse Park offers expanded stabling opportunities and multiple rings for schooling and warm ups, as well Otto Sport’s all-weather footing. If the past 81 years have taught us anything, it is that it will rain during the Horse Show! We are also able to offer expanded box seating and hospitality options. We are thrilled to have more amenities for horses, spectators and exhibitors! We believe exhibitors will enjoy com- peting in the world class Rolex Arena and will love the atmosphere.

Despite the 2018 change of venue, the Junior League of Lexington Charity Horse Show will remain the first leg of the American Saddlebred Triple Crown and the largest outdoor Saddlebred Horse Show. The show attracts over 30,000 spectators and nearly 1,000 exhibitors who come from all over the world to compete for $70,000 in prize money. Most importantly we will be dedicated to continuing to provide the high level of hospitality the Junior League of Lexington is known for, with expansions to those offerings as well.

Again, we thank you for the opportunity to be our guest for the 2018 Show and in the future. The Marriott Griffin Gate is our host hotel for 2018. Make sure to book early to get your special rate. Stay updated by following us on our Face- book, Instagram, or twitter pages. You can also check out our website for excit- ing details, events, and all things Horse Show related at: www.lexjrleague.com.

We look forward to seeing you again this July. If you are coming to the Show for the first time, we look forward to sharing our tradition with you. It is an ex- citing year for us as we move into our new home at the Kentucky Horse Park. We hope you will be a part of this special year and the new exciting changes to come!

Best Wishes, Katy Ross

3 The Junior League of Lexington: More than 90 Years of Serving the Bluegrass

Ten women dedicated to voluntarism and improving the Lexington community founded the Junior League of Lexington (JLL) in 1924 and built the foundation of community service for which ’s League is known. For more than 90 years, many strong women from around the Bluegrass have united and worked together to improve life for all citizens of our community. Our mission statement challenges us to promote voluntarism and improve our community through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers. The JLL has answered this call through its long history of supporting more than 130 local nonprofit organizations with both our time and our finances. Since our formation, the JLL has been a leading force in identifying and answering needs across the Bluegrass region of Kentucky, and partnering with other local organizations has allowed us to have a tremendous impact on the community. In our 93 years of existence, the JLL has been a founding contributor for many important local organizations still serving our community, including Baby Health Services (1938), the Lexington Children’s Theater (1939), the Opportunity Workshop of Lexington (1961), the Living Arts and Science Center (1968), Chrysalis House (1978), and the Hope Center Recovery Program for Women (2000). In addition to these important monetary donations, JLL members continue to offer an even more important donation: dedication through volunteering. Members volunteer their time to organizations throughout the Bluegrass in many different ways, from helping with everyday tasks like spring cleaning and meal preparation to presenting “Kids on the Block” puppet shows to school children in Fayette County to serving as board members for numerous area nonprofit organizations. In total, JLL members contribute more than 3,500 volunteer service hours to other central Kentucky nonprofits each year! Developing women’s potential is another focus of the JLL, and we have created some truly unique avenues for accomplishing this goal over the past 93 years. We are well known for the Lexington Junior League Horse Show, which began in 1937 and continues to draw visitors from around the country each July. League members put in countless hours every year to make this event a success, and we’re excited that you’re interested in joining us for our 81st show this year! Planning and implementing the show provides incredible training for our membership and helps us to develop important skills in many areas, including marketing, fundraising, event organization, and management. Thank you for helping to create this opportunity each and every year. Back in 1924, our charter members saw an opportunity to make a difference. Through the combined energy and vision of our membership over the past nine decades, the JLL has indeed made a difference by touching many lives in need. This same energy and vision continue to propel us forward and to challenge the JLL to continue improving life in the Bluegrass for many years to come. We are honored to have your support and partnership in this ongoing effort!
