VERMEER QUARTET , violin Mathias Tacke, violin Program Richard Young, viola Marc Johnson, cello With performances in practically every major city in North America, and Australia, the Vermeer Quartet has achieved Quartet in D Major, Op. 64, No. 5, Hob. Ill: 63 an international stature as one of the world's finest classical music ("Lark") ensembles. Formed in 1969 at Marlboro, the Vermeer has since -HAYDN performed at virtually all of the most prestigious festivals, Allegro moderato including Tanglewood, Aldeburgh, Mostly Mozart, Aspen, Bath, Adagio: Cantabile , South Bank, Flanders, Albuquerque, Stresa, , Menuet: Allegretto Schleswig-Holstein, Santa Fe, , Great Woods, Spoleto, Finale: Vivace Ravinia and Casals. Since 1970, they have been on the Resident Artist Faculty of Northern Illinois University at De Kalb. Beginning in 1978, they have presented annual master classes at the Royal Northern No. 1 ("Kreutzer Sonata") College of Music in , . For over two decades -JANACEK they have spent part of each summer on the coast of Maine as the featured ensemble for Bay Chamber Concerts. The Vermeer Adagio makes its permanent home in , where it has been the Con moto resident quartet for Performing Arts Chicago since 1984. Con moto Con moto The Vermeer Quartet offers an impressive variety of repertoire, including not only the standard classics, but many less familiar compositions as well. In addition, they regularly present new works for string quartet, many of which were written for them. Their numerous recordings include the entire Beethoven cycle Quartet in C minor, Op. 51, No. 1 plus works by Schubert, Dvorak, Mendelssohn, Verdi, Brahms and -BRAHMS Tchaikovsky. Their latest CD is Haydn's "The Seven Last Words of Allegro Christ," and it is the first time this work has been recorded in its Romanze: Poco Adagio original format. Allegretto molto moderato e comodo; The Vermeer's members are originally from , Germany, New Un poco piu animate York and Nebraska, thus providing a unique blend of musical and Allegro cultural backgrounds. Switzerland's Suisse writes, "Out of this alchemy is born a thing of beauty which one can define, without hesitation, as perfection." A protege of the legendary jazz master Dizzy Gillespie, he has evolved into one of the world's most acknowledged guardians of jazz trumpet and flugelhorn, as well as renowned classical artist. His performances and collaborations have brought this outstanding musician to all of the world's major music centers.
