MCA-700 Midline/Reissue Series
MCA 700 Discography by David Edwards, Mike Callahan & Patrice Eyries © 2018 by Mike Callahan MCA-700 Midline/Reissue Series: By the time the reissue series reached MCA-700, most of the ABC reissues had been accomplished in the MCA 500-600s. MCA decided that when full price albums were converted to midline prices, the albums needed a new number altogether rather than just making the administrative change. In this series, we get reissues of many MCA albums that were only one to three years old, as well as a lot of Decca reissues. Rather than pay the price for new covers and labels, most of these were just stamped with the new numbers in gold ink on the front covers, with the same jackets and labels with the old catalog numbers. Loggins and Messina
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE JUNE 1, 2009 BOULEVARD CASINO PRESENTS LOGGINS AND MESSINA LIVE AT THE RED ROBINSON SHOW THEATRE FRIDAY, OCTOBER 30 Coquitlam, BC – Over thirty-five years since Sittin’ In together, Kenny Loggins and Jimmy Messina are in the early stages of putting together a new tour that picks up where 2005’s highly successful “Sittin’ In Again” reunion tour left off. All this shared activity marks the unexpected and unlikely return of the most successful duo of the early 70’s … a group whose most enduring songs were so well crafted that they have never really gone away. At the same time, Loggins & Messina find themselves rebuilding the personal connection that was lost long ago. Though Loggins and Messina’s first Greatest Hits collection was called The Best Of Friends, both men confess that their relationship has long been a complex and sometimes difficult one. When they first met, Messina was already a well-established success story having produced and played with the legendary band, Buffalo Springfield and later with the country-rock pioneers, Poco. Loggins meanwhile was a young singer-songwriter with far less experience but with talent to burn as evidenced by early compositions like “House At Pooh Corner” and “Danny’s Song.” Then in 1971, Sittin’ In – originally envisioned as a one-off joint release intended to introduce Loggins as part of a Messina six-album production deal with Columbia Records – became a smash hit. So by public demand, this accidental duo was created and released such hits as “Your Mama Don’t Dance,” “Thinking of You,” “Angry Eyes,” “My Music” and “Watching The River Run.“ By 1977, the duo who had sold sixteen million albums and became one of rock’s most popular draws went their separate ways to pursue solo careers and it wasn’t until 2005 that they decided to reunite for a summer tour. -

Their Greatest Hits (1971-1975)”—The Eagles (1976) Added to the Registry: 2016 Essay by Marc Eliot (Guest Post)*
“Their Greatest Hits (1971-1975)”—The Eagles (1976) Added to the Registry: 2016 Essay by Marc Eliot (guest post)* The Eagles In 1971, the arrival of The Eagles signaled a major shift in popular musical tastes in America. If Woodstock was the funeral for both the music and the culture of a decade of drugged out, hippie, free love and cultish idealism, the Seventies was the decade of blatant decadence, political cynicism, sexual distrust, and rampant narcissism. No band represented both the rejection of the Sixties and the celebration of the Seventies more than its crown princes, the Eagles. Songs like “Lyin’ Eyes,” “Witchy Woman,” “One of These Nights,” and “Already Gone,” filled with spirited playing, close harmonies and an overlay of the Eagles’ war between the sexes, comprise four of the ten selections included in the initial compilation of Eagles’ hit songs from their first four albums, “Their Greatest Hits (1971-1975).” Ironically, although the Eagles’ laid-back sound was bright and natural as Southern California sunshine, none of the original four members were Golden State natives (Don Henley, vocalist, lyricist, drummer, was from Texas, bred on bluegrass and country music; Glenn Frey, vocalist, lyricist, rhythm guitar, pianist, came from the streets of Detroit, influenced by the music of Motown and mentored by Bob Seger; Randy Meisner, on bass, was a veteran bar band night sider out of Nebraska; Bernie Leadon, guitar, mandolin, banjo, was a Minnesotan who loved and loved to play classic country). Each migrated separately to Los Angeles, like lemmings, to The Troubadour, the musical and cultural ground zero club on Santa Monica Boulevard, owned and operated by Doug Weston, who favored putting on his stage country-rock bands and female vocalists. -

Can You Predict a Hit?
CAN YOU PREDICT A HIT? FINDING POTENTIAL HIT SONGS THROUGH LAST.FM PREDICTORS BACHELOR THESIS MARVIN SMIT (0720798) DEPARTMENT OF ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE RADBOUD UNIVERSITEIT NIJMEGEN SUPERVISORS: DR. L.G. VUURPIJL DR. F. GROOTJEN Abstract In the field of Music Information Retrieval, studies on Hit Song Science are becoming more and more popular. The concept of predicting whether a song has the potential to become a hit song is an interesting challenge. This paper describes my research on how hit song predictors can be utilized to predict hit songs. Three subject groups of predictors were gathered from the Last.fm service, based on a selection of past hit songs from the record charts. By gathering new data from these predictors and using a term frequency-inversed document frequency algorithm on their listened tracks, I was able to determine which songs had the potential to become a hit song. The results showed that the predictors have a better sense on listening to potential hit songs in comparison to their corresponding control groups.
