Description
The Ministry of Environment has identified the need for Technical Assistance (TA) for the preparation of the Harju Sub-River Basin District Water Management Plan as a pilot river basin management plan. Further water management plans for sub-river basin districts are planned in Estonia.
This TA project has been initiated to implement the Water Framework Directive 2000/60/EC. The outcome will be a water management plan for Harju sub-river basin district including five sub-programmes (drinking water, ground water, surface water, aquatic ecosystem, coastal marine water). The plan will list potential measures and concrete investments in the water sector.
The projects covers 7 towns (Tallinn, Maardu, Kehra, Paldiski, Keila, Saue, Tapa) and 38 municipalities (Aegviidu, Albu, Ambla, Anija, Harku, Jõelähtme, Juuru, Kadrina, Kaiu, Kehtna, Keila, Kernu, Kiili, Kohila, Kose, Kõue, Kuusalu, Lehtse, Loksa, Nissi, Nõva, Noarootsi, Oru, Padise, Paide, Raasiku, Rae, Rapla, Risti, Roosna-Alliku, Saksi, Saku, Saue, Taebla, Tamsalu, Väätsa, Vasalemma, Viimsi).
Objectives The overall objective is to elaborate an integrated water management based on the water framework directive 2000/60/EC. This TA project supports to have an systematic approach in the water sector for the Harju sub-river basin district. The aim of the water management plan is to develop a list of potential measures and investments which could be co-financed under Cohesion or Structural funds. This systematic approach in the water sector of Haju sub-river basin district will support a well-balanced and sustainable development in this sub-river basin district which is in particular important in this high-growth area in Estonia.
