At that point of time, many envisioned cryptography as a great tech‐ nological equalizer that could put the weakest privacy-seeking individual on the same plat‐ form as the greatest national intelligence agencies with powerful resources at their command. Some political strategists forecasted that the power of cryptography would bring about the downfall of nations when governments would no longer be able to snoop on peo‐ ple in the cyberspace, while others looked forward to it as a fantastic tool for the drug deal‐ ers, terrorists, and child pornographers, who would be able to communicate in perfect secrecy. Some proponents also imagined cryptography as a technology that would enable global commerce in this new online world. Even 25 years later, none of these expectations are met in reality today. Despite the phenomenal advances in cryptographic algorithms, the Internet's national borders are more apparent than ever. The ability to detect and eavesdrop on criminal communications has more to do with politics and manual interventions by human rather than by automatic detection or prevention by mathematics of cryptographic protocols. Individuals still don't stand a chance against pow‐ erful and well-funded government agencies by seeking protection under the shield of cryptog‐ raphy. And the rise of global commerce had more to do with open economic policies of the nations than on the prevalence of cryptographic protocols and standards. While it is true that cryptography has failed to provide its users the real security it prom‐ ised, the reasons for this failure have less to do with cryptography as a mathematical sci‐ ence. Rather, poor implementation of cryptographic protocols and algorithms has been the major source of problems. Although to a large extent we have been successful in developing cryptographic systems, what we have been less effective at is to convert the mathematical promise and ideas of cryptographic security into a secure working system in practice. Another aspect of cryptography that is responsible for its failure in real world is that there are too many myths about it. There is no dearth of engineers who consider cryptography as a sort of magic wand that they can wave over their hardware or software in order to achieve the security level promised by the cryptographic algorithms. Far too many users impose their full faith on the word "encrypted" in the products they use and live under the false impression of magical security in their operations. Reviewers have also no exceptions, com‐ paring algorithms and protocols on the basis of key lengths and then falsely believing that products using longer key lengths are more secure. The literature of cryptography has also served no good in spreading the myths about cryp‐ tography. The burgeoning of online question and answer forums like Quora, Stack Overflow, etc. has helped answer millions of questions across the globe. However, this also simultaneously engendered the prob- lem of Insincere Questions. Insincere questions are those that have a nonneutral undertone with no intention of seeking useful answers. The Classification of Insincere Questions task at FIRE 2019 did not just fo- cus on binary classification of insincere questions, but went a step further and introduced a fine-grained classification of 6 labels, namely: rhetorical, hate speech, sexual content, hypothetical, other and sincere questions. The solution offered by SSN NLP used a 2 level approach. The funda- mental level comprised of SGD optimized SVM Classification model. In addition to this, the corpus was filtered based on frequently occurring, relevant keywords. Users are the most important resource for CQA services, and the awareness of user expertise at early stage is critical to improve user experience and reduce churn rate. However, due to the lack of engagement, it is difficult to infer the expertise levels of newcomers. Despite that newcomers expose little expertise evidence in CQA services, they might have left footprints on external social media websites. Social login is a technical mechanism to unify multiple social identities on different sites corresponding to a single person entity. We utilize the social login as a bridge and leverage social media knowledge for improving user performance prediction in CQA services. In this paper, we construct a dataset of 20,742 users who have been linked across Zhihu (similar to Quora) and Sina Weibo. We perform extensive experiments including hypothesis test and real task evaluation. The results of hypothesis test indicate that both prestige and relevance knowledge on Weibo are correlated with user performance in Zhihu. Uber is available in 58 countries and over 400 cities, with a market valuation speculated as high as $70 billion. Uber’s story of success did not happen without controversy. The “network effect” is one of the most important theories used to explain the competitive advantage and sustainability of the largest SNSs in the face of the emergence of multiple competitive followers. However, as numerous cases can be observed when a follower manages to overcome the previously largest SNS, we propose the following research question: Why are the largest social networking services sometimes unable to sustain themselves? This question can also be paraphrased as follows: When (under what conditions) do the largest SNSs collapse? Although the network effect generally enables larger networks to survive and thrive, exceptional cases have been observed, such as NateOn Messenger catching up with MSN Messenger in Korea (Case 1), KakaoTalk catching up with NateOn in Korea (Case 2), Facebook catching up with Myspace in the USA (Case 3), and Facebook catching up with Cyworld in Korea (Case 4). To explain these cases, hypothesis-building and practice-oriented methods were chosen. While developing our hypothesis, we coined the concept of a “larger population social network” (LPSN) and proposed an “LPSN effect hypothesis” as follows: The largest SNS in one area can collapse when a new SNS grows in another larger population’s social network.
