Local Tourist Association Chairs Meeting Beveridge Park Hotel Local Tourist Association Chairs Meeting Beveridge Park Hotel Kirkcaldy 11th August 2016 Attendance: Lorna Reid VisitScotland Drew Shedden Mid Fife LTA Moira Henderson Cupar & North LTA Jim McArthur St Andrews Partnership Ann Camus Fife Council Gillian McCracken Fife Council John Murray Fife Council Apologies: Sharron McIntosh Fife Cultural Trust Manuela Calchini VisitScotland Alistair Bruce Dunfermline & West LTA Andrew Peddie East Neuk LTA 1. Welcome and Apologies Drew welcomed everyone to the meeting and noted the apologies as above. 2. LTA’s Mid Fife Mid Fife Tourism Association Feedback Session will take place on 12th September at Adam Smith Theatre. Drew expressed concerns over the future of accommodation in Kirkcaldy as there are currently 6 hotels although 1 is closed down and 3 are currently up for sale. Drew feels the time is right to step down from chair after the feedback session but the group agreed that he should still sit round the LTA table. Cupar & North Fife Council Cupar & North Fife brochure now printed and delivered to county buildings. Cupar Preservation Society had been in contact to say they have contributed to the brochure but this is a potential mix up. Ring Farm has now introduced Glamping. Next meeting will be at Coffee & Kilts on 12th September to discuss constitution. St Andrews Partnership The Partnership campaign to light up the Cathedral has had £10,000 pledged so far and looking for a headline sponsor. St Andrews Day Celebrations will take place from 25th – 30th th November including The Open Air Ceilidh on the 26 , St Andrews v. Rest of the World Golf Tournament on 27th, Open buildings, university lectures and live video links to other St Andrews Societies across the globe. Unfortunately the joint bid for the Tourism Destination Development Fund through Scottish Enterprise was unsuccessful. 20% increase in traffic this year to VisitStAndrews.com. Jim expressed concerns over the newly formed ‘Tourism St Andrews’. Jim wants to canvas the tourism businesses and ask them if they wish for Tourism St Andrews to act as the Local Tourist Association for the town. Drew considered this sensible and thought he should proceed. Ann explained that the newly formed group have adopted LTA model meaning meetings are open to all businesses. Jim also expressed he was disappointed that Fife Council and VisitScotland attended a meeting. Ann stated this was at the group’s request to explain projects happening in Fife. Ann also explained that there has never been a Local Tourist Association in St Andrews as Patrick did not want to adopt this model but instead, resurrect a tourism sub-group but this never went ahead. Moira stated she could understand why the group, like Cupar & North Fife, would want individuality. Ann felt the Partnership would be an important player in the Tourism St Andrews group. Jim will take this back to the Partnership board and conduct the survey. 3. WorldHost update World Host business recognitions now at 70 thanks to the help of both Ashley Petrie from MAJR and Sharron McCormick at the Fife Cultural Trust. Courses are booked throughout the year and posted on the FTP website. John expressed a concern that although the number is terrific; they are not necessarily in the areas/on the list originally given to People 1st. Drew feels that it’s in the interest of People 1st to get as many people as possible signed up to their courses. Where they are in Fife ought to be less of an issue and the issue of where the people are should be crossed once we are nearer the target numbers. July had two workshops, one at the Rosyth Ferry Terminal and the other at St Andrews Botanic Garden. Next workshops take place at BEST WESTERN Scores Hotel (8th Sept) and Best WESTERN PLUS Keavil House Hotel (20th Sept). Moira has completed the course giving The Rings, WorldHost business recognition. Cluny Clays needs 3 more staff to complete the workshop to get recognition. 4. VisitScotland Lorna went over the Autumn/Winter mailer. Fife Buildings YIAD events will be included as well as highlight on St Andrews day celebrations and Scotrail offer with image of the Forth Bridge (Kids go Free). Golf Tourism industry has been “Flamboyant”. There will be a competition in The Times around the Dunhill which will have a reach of over one million. The Mailer will be sent out the chairs once available. John Of Fife VS listings of 343 accommodation listings that only 32.4% were bookable on line- shared in the context of digital reviews service VS offers and the increased use of digital channels by consumers in their booking experiences. Subsequently at the LTA chairs meeting it was asked if it was possible to advise on the profile of the business that were: a) Not bookable on line- e.g. breakdown of type of accommodation is this B&Bs, self- catering, hotels etc ? - 29% are B&Bs or Guest Houses - 13% are Hotels, Hostels or Inns - 11% are Caravan/Camping/Touring Parks - 47% are Self-caterers b) Of the 32.4% that are bookable again what is this profile B&B, self-catering hotels - 27% are B&Bs or Guest Houses - 7% are Hotels or Inns - 66% are Self-caterers Should a business be interested in progressing booking systems a list of integrated booking systems can be viewed on the following link: http://www.visitscotland.org/business_support/marketing_opportuniti es/our_national_tourism_website/property_management_systems.a spx VisitScotland cannot assist with that part of the process as these are third party external companies and the contract is between the business and provider, however, if a business does sign up and is having difficulty adding their provider via their Extranet access, then VisitScotland can do it for them, if they pass on the code to Fife’s industry relationship manager – James Sinclair - [email protected] 5. Fife Tourism Partnership Year of Innovation Architecture and Design Ann updated the board on progress. Mid Fife & East Neuk press releases and push on Social Media took place on the regions respective dates (below). Year of History Heritage and Archeology For the Year of History, Heritage and Archaeology, WelcometoFife can use buildings drawn this year by illustrator Wil Freeborn and can commission more illustrations to tie in with 2017’s themed year. Fife Council Archaeologist Douglas Speirs will be helpful with content and linking to heritage groups. FTP website upgrade Ann & John visited Mike Sutherland of Internet Creations to discuss an upgrade to the Fife Tourism Partnership website. The website is now fully responsive and has a slightly cleaner design. The new site plans to have sections for project groups and LTAs where a simple contact form to join the LTA will become available to businesses in the respective region. This will be complemented by a video of each LTA chair. Pokémon GO Many businesses around the globe have already been benefiting from the craze and it's now sweeping Fife. Businesses such as the Anstruther Fish Bar, Kingswood Hotel and Deep Sea World have been promoting themselves on social media as Pokestops/hosts of rare “Pokémon”. The Fife Cultural Trust also release a press release to highlight their libraries as hotspots. “What can businesses do to attract visitors?” piece on FTP website and this has been pushed to businesses via the website and social media. http://www.fifetourismpartnership.org/news/can-your- business-capatalise-on-pokemon-go/ 6. • Initial Proposals for New Westminster Constituencies
THIS REPORT RELATES STIRLING COUNCIL TO ITEM 15 ON THE AGENDA STIRLING COUNCIL CHIEF EXECUTIVE’S OFFICE 1 DECEMBER 2011 NOT EXEMPT INITIAL PROPOSALS FOR NEW WESTMINISTER CONSTITUENCIES 1 SUMMARY 1.1 The Boundary Commission for Scotland has published its Initial Proposals for UK Parliament Constituencies in Scotland. The proposed changes affect the Westminster constituency covering the Stirling Council area. The initial proposal creates the Stirling and Crieff constituency covering all of the Stirling Council area and the south-west part of Perth and Kinross Council area, Appendix 1. 1.2 The consultation on these initial proposals will last from 13 October 2011 until 4 January 2012. This will be followed by further consultation in 2012 before the Boundary Commission makes its Final Recommendations. 2 OFFICER RECOMMENDATION(S) Council agrees to consider the Boundary Commission for Scotland proposals contained in the sixth review of UK Parliament Constituencies and determine the Council’s response. 3 CONSIDERATIONS 3.1 The UK parliament has decided to reduce the number of UK parliament constituencies from 650 to 600. In Scotland this means that there will be 52 constituencies instead of 59. Of these 2 constituencies are defined in the legislation: Na h-Eileanan an lar and Orkney and Shetland. The remaining constituencies must each have between 72,810 and 80,473 electors. The Commission has also had to ensure that no constituency exceeds the maximum permitted area of 13000 square kilometres. Details are provides in Annex 1. 3.2 Due to the reduction in the number of constituencies and the requirements for nearly equal numbers of electors in each constituency, it has not been possible to leave constituencies as they currently are.
