Also available on the Ministry of Agriculture website at saskatchewan.ca/crop-report. The majority of crop conditions this week are good. Smaller seed crops such as canola and mustard are rated as fair to good. This is mainly due to reduced germination caused by winds and lack of moisture as well as flea beetle pressure. In general, emergence of early- seeded crops is good and uniform, but more moisture is required to help germination of later-seeded crops and to support crop development. Most of the crop damage this week was due to strong winds, dry soil conditions, flea beetles, and light frosts in some areas of the eastern regions.

Farmers have been busy seeding, spraying herbicides, picking stones and scouting for early season insect pests.

Southeastern Saskatchewan:  Crop District 1 – Carnduff, , Redvers, Moosomin and Kipling areas  Crop District 2 – , Milestone, , Regina and Qu’Appelle areas  Crop District 3ASE – Radville, Minton and Lake Alma areas

Seeding is nearly complete in the region, with 97 Southeastern Saskatchewan per cent of the crop planted. This is up from 84 per Crop District % seeded cent last week and on track with the five-year (June 1, 2020) average of 96 per cent (2015-2019) for this time of 1A 96 year. In the region, 99 per cent of the durum, field 1B 94 peas, chickpeas, canaryseed and mustard, 98 per 2A 99 cent of the spring wheat and lentils, 97 per cent of 2B 99 the canola, 96 per cent of the flax, 95 per cent of 3ASE 94 the barley, 91 per cent of the oats and soybeans Region average 97 are seeded.

There was limited rainfall this week, ranging from zero to eight mm in areas around Indian Head and Tantallon. The Lampman and Whitewood areas received two mm and the Odessa and Wilcox areas four mm. Significant rainfall will be needed soon to support crop germination and development and to ensure pasture and hay growth.

Windy conditions continued this week, reducing topsoil moisture further. Later-seeded and shallow-seeded crops have shown delayed emergence. The wind has also prevented farmers from pre-seed burn0off and has delayed in-crop weed control. Cropland topsoil moisture is rated as one per cent surplus, 59 per cent adequate, 35 per cent short and five per cent very short. Hay and pasture land topsoil moisture is rated as 48 per cent adequate, 39 per cent short and 13 per cent very short.

The majority of crops across the region are in good condition. Smaller seed crops such as canola, mustard and flax are in fair to good condition. Continuous wind has been drying the soil and reducing emergence of these crops. Most of the crop damage this week is due to strong winds, dry soils, flea beetles, cutworms and light frosts in some areas.

Farmers have been busy seeding, spraying when possible and hauling grain.

Southwestern Saskatchewan:  Crop District 3ASW – Coronach, Assiniboia and Ogema areas  Crop District 3AN – Gravelbourg, Mossbank, Mortlach and Central Butte areas  Crop District 3B – Kyle, , Shaunavon and areas  Crop District 4 – Consul, Maple Creek and Leader areas

Farmers have nearly finished seeding, with 99 per Southwestern Saskatchewan cent of the crop in the ground. This is up from 92 Crop District % Seeded per cent last week and ahead the five-year average (June 1, 2020) of 96 per cent (2015-2019) for this time of year. 3ASW 99 Ninety-nine per cent of the spring wheat, canola, 3AN 96 lentils, field peas and chickpeas, 98 per cent of the 3BS 99 durum and flax, 97 per cent of the canary seed, 95 3BN 98 per cent of the barley and 90 per cent of the oats 4A 99 are planted. 4B 99 Region 99 Rain in the region ranged from zero to eight mm in average some areas southwest of Moose Jaw. The Gull Lake and areas received four mm, the Fife Lake and Tyner areas five mm, and the Cabri and Mortlach areas six mm. The Kyle area has received the most precipitation since April 1 (79.5 mm).

Areas that received rain last week have reported good germination and emergence of crops as well as pasture growth. These areas, as well as the areas that did not receive rain need more moisture. The warm temperatures and wind have continued to dry the soil. Winds have continued to prevent spraying and weeds in less competitive crops may become an issue.

Cropland topsoil moisture is rated as one per cent surplus, 64 per cent adequate, 28 per cent short and seven per cent very short. Hay and pasture land topsoil moisture is rated as 54 per cent adequate, 27 per cent short and 19 per cent very short.

The majority of crops in the region are in fair to good condition. Most of the damage this past week was caused by winds, dry soil conditions and flea beetles. The winds have cause damage to young seedlings and have prevented growth along the edges of fields.

Farmers have been busy seeding and conducting post-emergence weed control as the weather permits.

East-Central Saskatchewan:  Crop District 5 – Melville, , Cupar, Kamsack, Foam Lake, Preeceville and Kelvington areas  Crop District 6A – Lumsden, Craik, Watrous and Clavet areas

Dry conditions have allowed farmers to make East-central Saskatchewan significant progress seeding, with some finishing up Crop District % Seeded for the year. Seeding is 93 per cent complete in the (June 1, 2020) region, which is up from 69 per cent last week and 5A 90 ahead of the five-year average of 90 per cent (2015- 5B 94 2019) for this time of year. 6A 96 Region 93 In the region, 97 per cent of the lentils, 95 per cent average of the spring wheat and durum, 93 per cent of the canola, 92 per cent of the barley, 87 per cent of the flax and 84 per cent of the oats are seeded.

The Lipton area and areas south of Humboldt received the highest amount of rain in the region with 14 mm. The Semans and Craik areas received one mm, Saltcoats area three mm, the Craven area five mm and the Goodeve, Foam Lake and Wynyard areas six mm. The Kelvington area has received the most precipitation since April 1 (54 mm).

Earlier seeded crops are emerging nicely, but wind has been blowing soil and damaging young seedlings. Crop, hay and pastures are growing slowly due to lack of moisture and cool nighttime temperatures in some areas. Cropland topsoil moisture is rated as 48 per cent adequate, 48 per cent short and four per cent very short. Hay and pasture land topsoil moisture is rated as 39 per cent adequate, 53 per cent short and eight per cent very short.

The majority of crops are in fair to good condition. Most of the crop damage this week is due to strong winds, dry soils, flea beetles and light frosts in some areas.

Farmers have been busy seeding, spraying when able, finishing up any remaining harvest from last year and picking stones.

West-Central Saskatchewan:  Crop District 6B – Hanley, Outlook, Loreburn, and Arelee areas  Crop District 7A – Rosetown, Kindersley, Eston and Major areas  Crop District 7B – Kerrobert, Macklin, Wilkie and Biggar areas

Seeding is 97 per cent complete in the region, up West-central Saskatchewan from 80 per cent last week and ahead of the five- Crop District % Seeded year average of 93 per cent (2015-2019) for this (June 1, 2020) time of year. Ninety-nine per cent of the field peas, 6B 94 lentils and canary seed, 98 per cent of the durum 7A 98 and canola, 97 per cent of the mustard, 96 per cent 7B 99 of the spring wheat, 95 per cent of the soybeans, 94 Region 97 per cent of the barley, 91 per cent of the flax and 80 average per cent of the oats are planted.

Areas of the region that previously received rainfall have improved crop development and pasture growth. This week there was little precipitation and more will be needed soon. Rainfall ranged from zero to 20 mm in the Rosthern area. The Smiley area received one mm, the Saskatoon and Kerrobert areas two mm, the Dinsmore area three mm and the Biggar and Unity areas five mm. The Cando area has received the most precipitation in the province since April 1 (138 mm), with the majority of that received last week.

Strong winds and warm temperatures are reducing moisture conditions in the region. Farmers are hoping for more rain soon. Cropland topsoil moisture is rated as 66 per cent adequate, 33 per cent short and one per cent very short. Hay and pasture land topsoil moisture is rated as 60 per cent adequate, 36 per cent short and four per cent very short.

The majority of crops are in fair to excellent condition. Later-seeded crops and smaller seeded crops are slow to emerge. Canolam specifically, has reduced germination due to limited moisture in the top layer of the soil. Strong winds have prevented many farmers from spraying, but in-crop spraying has started in the region. Most of the crop damage this week was due to wind, dry conditions, flea beetles and cutworms.

Farmers are busy wrapping up seeding, in-crop spraying as wind conditions allow, rolling pulses, hauling grain and monitoring for early season insect pests.

Northeastern Saskatchewan:  Crop District 8 – Hudson Bay, Tisdale, Melfort, Carrot River, Humboldt, Kinistino, Cudworth and Aberdeen areas  Crop District 9AE – Prince Albert, Choiceland and Paddockwood areas

Significant progress was made this week and Northeastern Saskatchewan seeding is currently at 94 per cent. This is up from Crop District % Seeded 73 per cent last week and is 10 per cent ahead of (June 1, 2020) the five-year average of 84 per cent (2015-2019) for 8A 92 this time of year. Ninety-eight per cent of the field 8B 93 peas, 97 per cent of the spring wheat and durum, 9AE 96 95 per cent of the flax, 94 per cent of the barley, 93 Region 94 per cent of the oats, 92 per cent of the canola and average 91 per cent of the canary seed are seeded.

Most of the region received rain this week, which was welcome. The Garrick and Kinistino areas received the most rain with 24 mm. The Bruno area received nine mm, the Lake Lenore area 13 mm, the Star City area 16 mm and the Arborfield area 17 mm. The Paddockwood area has received the most precipitation since April 1 (129 mm).

Good moisture levels have been maintained in the region due to precipitation this week. With the recent rains, crop emergence and uniformity is good. Cropland topsoil moisture is rated as one per cent surplus, 86 per cent adequate and 13 per cent short. Hay and pasture land topsoil moisture is rated as 82 per cent adequate, 17 per cent short and one per cent very short.

Most crops are in good condition in the northeast region. Crop damage this week was due to wind damaging young seedlings, flea beetles in canola and light frosts.

Farmers are busy seeding, pre- and post-emergence spraying and scouting for early season insect pests.

Northwestern Saskatchewan:  Crop District 9AW – Shellbrook, , Big River and Hafford areas  Crop District 9B – Meadow Lake, Turtleford, , Maidstone and areas

Seeding is at 95 per cent in the region, up from 75 Northwestern Saskatchewan per cent last week and ahead of the five-year Crop District % Seeded average of 91 per cent (2015-2019) for this time of (June 1, 2020) year. Ninety-nine per cent of the field peas, 97 per 9AW 95 cent of the spring wheat, 96 per cent of the canola, 9B 95 91 per cent of the barley and 82 per cent of the oats Region 95 are planted. average

The area east of Neilburg received the highest amount of precipitation in the province this week with 28 mm. The Borden and Hafford areas received three mm, the Frenchman Butte area five mm, the Barthel area 11 mm and the St. Walburg area 14 mm. The Hafford area has received the most precipitation since April 1 (133 mm).

Pasture conditions have been improving in the region with the warm temperatures and recent rains. Cropland topsoil moisture is rated as one per cent surplus, 97 per cent adequate and two per cent short. Hay and pasture land topsoil moisture is rated as one per cent surplus, 94 per cent adequate and five per cent short.

In general, crop development is behind due to cooler temperatures earlier in the season, but this should improve with recent weather. Warm temperatures and good moisture conditions are supporting crop growth and crops are germinating and emerging uniformly. The majority of crops are in good condition. There was minimal crop damage this week, but the damage reported was due to wind and flea beetles.

Farmers are busy seeding, spraying when possible and moving cattle to pasture.
