CONSOLE The Ultimate FB runs nanochess’s excellent CoolCV emulator on a Raspberry Pi 2. You will see some computer code with booting, but I’ve tried to keep this to a minimum. It takes about 20 seconds to boot, so stretch out your fingers and prepare for some classic gaming! Once you’re in, you shouldn’t have to reboot. The RESET on the FB actually reboots the computer and does not reset the game you’re playing— this is done from your controller (see below). CONTROLS The Ultimate FB is set up for original ColecoVision controllers by default. You can also use the controllers listed below. In order to change controllers, you need to press and hold the button listed below while powering up or resetting the system until the boot screen (first ColecoVision screen) appears. After that, your last controller used will be remembered in the future. Note - this has to be done for both Player1 and Player2 controllers independently. Also, if you decide to use a non- CV controller for Player1, you’ll need to have a CV or CV FB controller plugged into Player2 to handle the keypad functions. Supported Controllers: • Intellivision, ColecoVision, Atari 2600 Keypad, 2014 INTV/CV Flashback controllers: press and hold the zero button on the keypad. • Coleco Rollerball: the switch should be set to Rollerball (not Joystick). press and hold zero on both hand controllers. With a USB keyboard attached to the FB, hit F5 in game to enable. Supported Controllers (CONT): • Coleco Steering Wheel: connect a Coleco controller and press and hold zero. Connect the steering after the controller is recognized. With a USB keyboard attached to the FB, hit F5 in game to enable. • Sega Master System and Genesis 3/6: press and hold the START key on the controller (which is button 1 on Master System, dedicated button on Genesis). • Atari 2600 and Atari 2600 Driving controllers, press and hold the fire button or side button (the only button on the controllers). • Atari 7800 Proline controllers, press and hold the left side button. • TI-99 controller, press and hold button #1. Only one controller in port A is recognized. Port B will not work with TI-99 joystick. • Amiga/Commodore controller, press and hold fire button or button #1 on 2 button controllers. *** To activate the joystick mode for the Coleco Rollerball and Steering Wheel, hold ONLY the asterick (*) key on both controllers. Game Selection Screen Left fire button: Select Right fire button: Go back / cancel *: Options #: Menu 2: Move up 10 games 8: Move down 10 games Joynub: Move through games, menu options, cursor. In-Game Controls RESET: Hold R fire button and press * on the keypad. PAUSE: Hold R fire button and press 0 on the keypad. EXIT: Hold R fire button and press # on the keypad. Let’s Fire Up Some Games! In order to start playing games, hook up an HDMI cable, plug in your power supply, and turn on your TV and the Ultimate FB. Hit the left fire button at the ColecoVision Games Available screen. Select a game with the joynub and press the left fire button to play the highlighted game. NOTE: If the game selection menu or games are getting cut off by your TV, you may have to change the aspect of your TV by selecting Full Native, Disable Zoom, Game Mode, etc. Transferring roms via USB The Ultimate Flashback also has a built-in function that automatically copies ROMs from a USB stick to the Ultimate FB. • On your Mac/PC, create a folder on your USB stick called “retropie”. • With the keyboard hooked up to your FB, exit by hitting F4. • Unplug your keyboard and plug in the USB stick. • The first time you plug the USB stick into the Ultimate Flashback, a ROM directory is generated in the retropie folder, which only takes a few seconds. Wait until the flashing on your USB stick stops and then you can unplug the stick. • Plug the stick it into your Mac/PC and copy your ROMs into the retropie -> roms -> colecovision directory on the USB stick. Eject. • Put the USB stick back into the Ultimate Flashback and the ROMs are automatically copied over. When the flashing on your USB stick ends unplug your USB stick. • Reboot your Ultimate Flashback or plug your keyboard back in and type in “emulationstation” to see your new games! Wifi Setup Plug a USB keyboard into the USB dongle sticking out of the back of the Ultimate FB. Turn on your Ultimate FB. Once the “ColecoVision games available” screen pops up, hit F4 on your keyboard to exit into Linux Command Line. You’re going to edit the wifi network file next. Type this in at the command line prompt: sudo nano /etc/wpa_supplicant/wpa_supplicant.conf Use the keyboard arrow keys to move through the file. Change the text inside the quotes to your own wifi network and password: network={ ssid="network" psk="password" } Now save the file by pressing ctrl+x then y, then press enter. Now reboot by typing: sudo reboot Wait for the “ColecoVision games available” screen again and exit with F4. Type in “ifconfig” at the prompt. One line down under “wlan0” you’ll see “inet addr:” followed by your IP number. Write the IP number down - you’ll need to get your Ultimate FB connected to wifi. Transferring roms via wifi I suggest you use the excellent free FTP program Cyberduck to transfer roms from your computer to the Ultimate FB. Launch Cyberduck and click on Open Connection. Select SFTP up at the top. Type in your Ultimate FB IP address in the Server box. Use “root” for your Username and “raspberry” for the password and click Connect. Once connected, click on the /root folder and select /. Navigate to the home -> pi -> RetroPie -> roms -> colecovision folder. You should see the built-in roms here. Now simply drag and drop your roms into this folder. You’ll have to hit F4 and type in “emulationstation” at the prompt or reboot the FB to see your new games. Adding box art to your games With your Ultimate FB connected via wifi as above, you can add box art images to the roms that you’ve added to your system. • Using Cyberduck, browse the directory /home/cb/ to see if the box art you need is already there. If not, you can upload box art to the /home/ cb/ directory. Make sure the picture file is under 100k or there will be a noticeable slowdown when scrolling through that game in the game selection screen. • Back on the FB, highlight the game you want to edit and press * on the controller in the game selection menu and select Edit This Game’s Metadata. • Move down to Image and hit the left side button. Hit the left side button again to enter text. Move the cursor with the joystick. • Using your attached USB keyboard, type in /home/cb/yourgame.jpg and hit Return. With the controller, move down and select Save. You should see your box art appear in the menu. *WARNING* Hit F4 or exit EmulationStation once you’ve saved your changes to permanently save them. Deleting Roms There’s a couple of ways to do this: • Using Cyberduck, navigate to the home -> pi -> RetroPie -> roms -> colecovision folder, select the game, then hit your delete key. • In the game selection menu, highlight the game you want to get rid of, then press *. Select Edit This Game’s Metadata and move down to Delete. You will likely need to reboot the system after this.
