The Lions flag at Miners’ Bay Park will be replaced by the Terry Fox Foundation flag until after the running event. The Lions are pleased to help support this very worthy cause in any way we can, and building participation for the September 16th run is our goal. It is hard to believe it has been 38 years since Terry began his memorable run. We have been busy during August with our rentals. Thanks, members, for setting up tents and chairs and tables for the Fall Fair and weddings, and thanks also goes to the BBQ team that SOOKE DISTRICT has been providing burgers and hotdogs for the ball games and the Fall Fair. Also, the Bingo was an added attraction at the fair. Lioness Club The Mayne Island Lions Salmon/Chicken BBQ was Sunday, September 2nd on the Labour Day weekend. September 2018 LTS 11 LIONS PROJECT In Memory VICTORIA LIONESS The District Governor’s Advisory meeting in October 2017 agreed to a project to raise funds to contribute to Pediatric Cancer ULLA ANDERSEN support in Victoria. Brian Morin, then Zone Chair, called the project the Lions Biggest Community BBQ for Childhood Cancer, which is a new area of support for Lions Clubs Interna- tional. The challenge was to find an opportunity to hold such an event. In mid August Lions were asked to provide food services for the National Baseball Men’s Championships being held in Victo- ria August 24 to 26. Due to commitments already made for other events, no Lions Clubs were willing to take on the task. However, Brian saw this as a chance to raise funds for the Lions Biggest Community BBQ for Childhood Cancer and take it on as a District Regional project. The outcome was $9,300 sales, netting in excess of $5,900. The help that came from almost all the Lion/Lioness Clubs in the area particularly the Victoria Chinatown Lioness who were awesome! We had PCC Al Beddows and 2nd VDG Jane Beddows doing shifts along with other Sooke Lions who just came off the previous week of hosting the RCMP Musi- cal Ride! Thank You all.
