LJC Briefing Note 21.01.15 Briefing Note for all Bridgnorth, Worfield, Alveley and Claverley LJC membership (including Brown Clee membership) As Chairman of the Bridgnorth, Worfield, Alveley, Claverley and Brown Clee LJC I wish to give you prior notice that Local Joint Committees are now responsible for recommending the way forward for the procurement of youth services. The purpose of this email is to update you on the work that we have been doing to get this process underway. Bridgnorth is one of the successful areas and has been allocated funding totalling £11,500. The budget is not available for offering out as grants and is not designed to support or duplicate voluntary work already in place. To this end and bearing in mind the timescales involved, we have set up a youth commissioning working group (membership 4 Bridgnorth Shropshire councillors, Anne Wilson the Town Clerk and a town council representative, representatives from the current youth service and the community working team). This group has met once and will continue to meet regularly over the forthcoming weeks with a view to formulating proposals for the LJC planning meeting already scheduled for 28th January. We have been advised that part of the process has to include formal consultation with current users of the service on what we propose to replace it with. We hope to be able to start this in early February. The budget is not available to be offered as grants and the LJC are being requested to recommend proposals to Shropshire Council for targeted youth provision that delivers specific outcomes. A formal procurement process will then commence with a contract being in place sometime early in the new financial year. 1 Bridgnorth Area Youth Partnership In addition to this work, we are also bringing together a Bridgnorth Area Youth Partnership. This will be separate to the above but will then be in place to help to move forward with a wide variety of youth aspects, working in a partnership to shape future needs but also looking at potential funding opportunities. Currently in the south Ludlow, Broseley, Cleobury and Craven Arms all have very successful youth partnerships and we see this as an opportunity for Bridgnorth. Please let me know if you have any queries at this stage and I will endeavour to answer them for you, or alternatively contact Andrea McWilliams of the Community Enablement Team who is working closely with colleagues in the Positive Activities team to undertake this project.
