About James Leitz About James Leitz JAMES LEITZ James Leitz is the P.G.A. Golf Professional at Tchefuncta Country Club in Covintgon, Louisiana. James was formally the Head Golf Professional at Pinewood Country Club for 33 years. He has been named Golf Professional Emeritus for life at Pinewood. James was named the Junior Promoter of the Year for the Louisiana P.G.A. in 1988. He has been ranked as one of the top 50 Junior Golf Instructors in the U.S. by U.S. Kids Golf. James has been the featured speaker at over 100 P.G.A. Educational Conferences for Golf Professionals all over the world including , Madrid Spain, Copenhagen Denmark, Helsinki Finland, Sweden, Ireland, St. Andrews Scotland, London England, Zurich Switzerland, Gold Coast of Australia, and Albert Canada. James was a 3 time featured speaker at the M.I.T. Better Golf Through Technology Conference. James is known worldwide as the “Teachers Teacher”.     Met Open Championship Presented by Callaway 103rdAugust 21 - 23, 2018 Wykagyl Country Club History of the Met Open Championship Presented by Callaway From its inception in 1905 through the 1940 renewal, the Met Open was considered one of the most prestigious events in golf, won by the likes of Gene Sarazen, Walter Hagen, Johnny Farrell, Tommy Armour, Paul Runyan, Byron Nelson, and Craig Wood, in addition to the brothers Alex and Macdonald Smith (who together captured seven Met Opens, with Alex winning a record four times). The second edition of the championship was hosted and sponsored by Hollywood Golf Club, when George Low won in 1906. After an eight-year hiatus overlapping World War II, the Met Open became more of a regional championship, won by many of the top local club professionals, among them Claude Harmon, Jimmy Wright, Jim Albus, David Glenz, Bobby Heins and Darrell Kestner, not to mention such storied amateurs as Chet Sanok, Jerry Courville Sr., George Zahringer III, Jim McGovern, Johnson Wagner, and Andrew Svoboda. The purse was raised to a record $150,000 in 2007, giving the championship added importance. In 2015 the MGA celebrated a major milestone in marking the championship’s 100th playing, won by Ben Polland at Winged Foot Golf Club. In 2017, The MGA welcomed a new Championship Partner, Callaway Golf. Callaway Golf is the presenting sponsor of the Met Open Championship. Eligibility The competition is open to golfers who are: 1. A: You can purchase inexpensive hickory clubs for as little as $25 each. Obviously, these are not likely to be of a premium quality and will probably require work to make them playable. At Classic Golf, we offer fully restored Tom Stewart irons for about $150 each with a one-year warranty on the shafts against breakage. Our restored woods are about $250 each for the premium examples. So, a ten-club set with two woods would run $1,700. A 14-club set would be $2,300. This compares favorably with the purchase of a premium modern 14-club set where your irons are $800, your driver is $400, fairway wood $200, two wedges at $125 each, hybrid at $150, and a putter at $200 for a total of $2,000. Q: Can a beginner or high handicap golfer play hickory golf? A: Yes. That is how it was done 100 years ago! It can be an advantage starting golf with clubs that require a more precise swing. Q: Are there reproduction clubs available and are they allowed in hickory tournaments? A: Reproduction clubs are available from Tad Moore, Barry Kerr, and Louisville Golf. Every tournament has its own set of rules. The National Hickory Championship allows reproductions because pre-1900 clubs are so difficult to find and are very expensive. At the present time there are ample supplies of vintage clubs available for play, but this could change with the increasing popularity of hickory golf.

    Inaugural Version of September 12-15, 2018 Message from The Centennial Chairmen Glenn Brander & Jeff Haar rentwood Country Club has a surprisingly long history. In fact, in 1916, Brentwood’s first 9 holes B opened, and one year later, its second 9 holes opened. Over the past several decades, Brentwood has hosted many great member-guest tournaments, most no- tably The Brentwooder. The Brentwooder has provided our members ONE opportunity each year to play alongside a guest of their choice in a meaningful, highly competitive, match play tournament. The Brent- wooder has long been, and will continue to be, a premiere tournament at Brentwood Country Club. In the past several years, as our competitive golf culture has grown, our Brentwooder tournament has sold out with a wait list. And so, many of our members were shut out from playing in the tournament. A realization set in that there was clearly an appetite from our membership for competitive, member-guest tournament golf, and one event a year wasn’t going to satisfy this appetite. It has long been a desire of ours to tie our club’s rich history, our heritage, to a singular, annual event. It was clear to us that the event needed to be a member guest tournament, one that doesn’t compete with The Brentwooder, but instead compliments it. The tournament would occur at a different time of the year, and with a format that differed from the Brentwooder’s match play format. With all of this in mind, a tournament sub-committee was formed, one that represented a healthy cross section of our membership (young-to-not-so-young).

    PGA MEDIA GUIDE 2012 PGA GOLF PROFESSIONAL HALL OF FAME On Sept. 8, 2005, The PGA of America honored 122 PGA members who have made significant and enduring contributions to The PGA of America and the game of golf, with engraved granite bricks on the south portico of the PGA Museum of Golf in Port St. Lucie, Fla. That group included 44 original inductees between 1940 and 1982, when the PGA Golf Professional Hall of Fame was located in Pinehurst, N.C. The 2005 Class featured then-PGA Honorary President M.G. Orender of Jacksonville Beach, Fla., and Craig Harmon, PGA Head Professional at Oak Hill Country Club in Rochester, N.Y., and the 2004 PGA Golf Professional of the Year. Orender led a delegation of 31 overall Past Presidents into the Hall, a list that begins with the Association’s first president, Robert White, who served from 1916-1919. Harmon headed a 51-member group who were recipients of The PGA’s highest honor — PGA Golf Professional of the Year. It was mostly upper-class white women, to be sure, and yet it was still a change from the past, when sports were viewed entirely as the province of men.     Member Profile Randy Jensen Omaha, Neb., USA f not for a strong competitive streak and a liking for golf, hickory golf champion Randy Jensen might have becomeI a filmmaker. “I loved Federico Fellini (early 20th century Italian film- maker), Stanley Kubrick, and Charlie Chaplin,” he says. “I had a strong attraction to their work.” Jensen, who was reared in Omaha along with three broth- ers, studied at Creighton Preparatory School and then took up psychology, sports, and film at Creighton University in Omaha. “I can show you many hours of movies I did over the years, mostly action/adventure type stuff and comedies,” Jensen says. Most were shot between 14 and 25 years of age. But it was a love for sports that would form his future. “My dad was an auto mechanic and he did not care much for sports; he thought it a waste of time,” Jensen says. “But I loved watching sports on TV. I was a New York Yankees fan and Mickey Mantle was my favorite player. I really got hooked on it, but later, when I was 13 or 14, I transitioned to golf. I recall watching Arnold Palmer and thinking his swing was just like hitting a low fastball.” Jensen says he remembers at a young age thinking he could play excellent golf – before even trying it.
