NEWSLETTER September 2017, issue 7 Parish Council matters The Parish Council welcomes a new councillor, Sarah Sinclair, who has been co-opted following the resignation of Bernard Nix a few months ago. Sarah brings a new perspective to the Parish Council being the parent of school-aged children. There is an increasing number of young families in Purley on Thames, so it is important that they ‘have a voice’ on the council. We are really pleased Sarah is joining us. If you would like to find out more about what the Parish Council does and how it works you can speak to the Parish Clerk, to me or any of the other councillors or come as an observer to a parish meeting. The Parish Office sometimes receives information from local residents about speeding issues in Purley on Thames. When there are concerns about speeding the local community needs to collect speeding data then, when we have a picture of a problem in a particular area we can refer it to the Traffic and Road Safety Team at West Berkshire Council. To be effective at tackling excessive speed in this way, we need a team of Speed Indicating Device (SID) volunteers to gather the data. West Berkshire Council provides training for using the equipment and all volunteers must attend. We currently have three Parish Councillors trained with SID but you don’t need to be a councillor to do this and Purley needs at least six qualified people. The next SID training session is on 25th October 6.30-8.30pm in Newbury. -

October 2015 Page 2 of 69 Highways England A404 Bisham Roundabout Improvement Public Consultation Report Executive Summary Highways England promoted a scheme to improve A404 Bisham Junction in the Government’s Pinch Point Programme. However, following initial consultation, it was decided that no scheme should be taken forward without further development work and a full consultation involving local residents, stakeholders and motorists. A public consultation was held between the 19 June 2015 and the 12 September 2015 on three options. It gave an opportunity for all to express their views on the proposed improvement options. The three options were: Option 1: Partial Signalised Roundabout Option 2: Left In/Left Out Option 3: Signalised Junction This report outlines how the public consultation was planned, carried out and its feedback reviewed. Exhibitions were held locally over 2 days with; one day at Bisham Abbey and the second at Bisham Church of England (C of E) Primary School. -

We will walk over Knowl Hill Common, through the lanes past Lovetts, Frogmore and Ffiennes Farms, to end with a drink at The Cricketers on Littlewick Green. En route we will pass the sites of past, present and future geophysical investigations by BAS members. Walking shoes are recommended and return by car to the lay-by will be arranged. No booking is required but please contact Ann Griffin for more details at [email protected] Warfield Historic Walk: Thursday 19 July Meet at 7.00 pm at Larks Hill car park (opposite Quelm Park), Harvest Ride, Bracknell. Warfield has an ancient but little known history, starting with Iron Age farmsteads. The walk will explore many facets of its past, including a former priory, a gibbet and a brick works, and will be led by Hugh Fitzwilliams. -
