Anger, Disgust, Outrage, Contempt, Frustration, Betrayal, Shame, Fear, Pain, Sorrow, Numbness – You may be feeling one or several of these emotions after learning about more recent bishop allegations, and on-going scandals involving abusers and the Catholic Church. These reactions are appropriate emotions to injustice. It is not only Children that are abused, but also vulnerable adults and one victim of abuse on behalf of someone representing God or the Church is even more egregious, and a serious violation of trust. Good leadership takes responsibility through accountability and proper actions. There is no question that Church leadership must be held accountable, as do Bishops and Church leaders. However, it is also the unique responsibility of our parish family (laity) who are called to protect the children and vulnerable adults in our community. We are ALL required morally, regardless of our role within the Church. This is one reason that the Archdiocese has implemented the Safe Environment training and reporting processes. We are committed to creating safer environments for everyone. Through fingerprinting and training we learn how to be aware of abuse, risky behavior and the steps to take to report our concerns. Everyone in a ministry must take the time to complete the training and finger printing, please contact (Carol Ann Loo [email protected]) for more information. This is a key component of your commitment to prevent abuse, we pray you will find it in your heart to follow through on these steps. God Bless and Keep you safe!
