Scope and content note: In conjunction with an MHS initiative to document the history of several ethnic groups within Maine, two projects were undertaken: obtaining photocopies of records in the Regional Archives of the National Archives and Records Administration, Waltham, Mass., of cases presented under the Chinese Exclusion Act in the United States District Court in Maine early in the 20th century against Maine residents (carried out by Gary Libby) and conducting interviews of Chinese-American residents (carried out by Libby and others) beginning in 2001. It is intended that additional donations relating to the Chinese-American community in Maine will be added to Coll. 2080.

Along with label an MHS exhibit. Tess Gerritson, a California born medical doctor and New York Times best selling author, is one of the Chinese people who moved to Maine in the 1990s. She lives in Camden with her husband and two sons.
