Our sewing kit bag uses a design from the INSPIRA® embroidery collection 121 My Sewing Room #620120796.

The pin cushion design is the 2013 January Monthly Design, #003121012. It is free for the month of January 2013 from www.myembroideries.com.

Cut: From tone on tone print: One piece 15” long x 18” wide for embroidery Two pieces 12½” long x 24½” wide for base From batting: Two rectangles 13” x 25” From vinyl: Six rectangles 6” long x 9” wide for pockets

Create the Designs: 1. Open 5D™ Embroidery software.

2. Open Hoop Selection .Under Hoop Type, choose Hoop Group HUSQVARNA VIKING® DESIGNER DIAMOND deLuxe™, Hoop Size 260mm x 200mm DESIGNER™ Crown Hoop. Under Orientation, choose Horizontal.

3. Bring in design #003121012.

4. Click on Encore .

5. Under Type, choose Line. Under Line Options choose Line 7, under Position choose Standard.

6. Under Number of Repeats, choose 3.

7. Under Finalizing Options, check Color Sort only.

8. Click OK.

9. Click and hold on one of the squares and drag it in so the designs fit in the hoop and look as shown.

10. Right click outside the design area to set the encored design.

11. Click on the Letter tab.

12. Select Category Script, Line script 4-20mm. Size 12mm.

13. Type in: So much fabric,

14. Hold down the Control key and touch Enter.

15. Type in: so little

16. Hold down the Control key and touch Enter.

17. Type in time

18. Click on Options.

19. Under Alignment choose, center .

20. Click OK.

21. Click Apply and arrange as shown.

22. Click on the Design tab.

23. Click on Combine All .

24. Click on the Hoop Icon.

25. Click on Vertical.

26. Click on Rotate 90 .

27. Click on Center in the Hoop .

28. Click on ColorSort .

29. Click on Save As and save the design as So much fabric.vp3.

30. Send the design to your embroidery machine.

31. Hoop the 15” x 18” fabric with cotton batting.

32. Insert a size 90 Embroidery needle.

33. Thread with Robison-Anton 40 wt. rayon embroidery thread top and bobbin thread in the bobbin.

34. Embroider the design.

Sew: 1. Using your Pictogram Pen, mark 1” out from the embroidery creating a curve as shown. The total width needs to be 12” and it should measure 6” from top to bottom.

2. Cut on the lines.

3. Cut a lining from the remaining tone on tone print fabric the same size as the embroidered flap piece.

4. Thread with sewing thread top and bobbin.

5. Snap on your Multi-Line Decorative Foot.

6. Place the 12½” x 24½” fabric on batting.

7. Align the outer edge of the Multi-Line Decorative Foot with the 24½” edge of one of the base pieces.

8. Select straight stitch A1:2 .

9. Stitch the first channel quilting line.

10. Continue stitching lines 1” apart by aligning the edge of the foot with the previously stitched line. This will be the inner piece.

11. Select stitch E1:12 .

12. Repeat with the other 12½” x 24½” rectangle of fabric and batting. On this one, after it is channel quilted in one direction, repeat going in the opposite direction to create a grid. This will be the outer piece.

13. On the channel quilted base piece with just channel quilting, mark a line 1” down from the 12½” edge. Mark 5 subsequent lines 3½” apart down the remainder of the base piece as shown.

14. Snap on your Non-Stick Glide Foot H.

15. Place the first zipper along the 9” edge of a 6” x 9” vinyl piece. The zipper pull should be towards you .

16. Select left needle position straight stitch, A1:1 .

17. Stitch the zipper in place. When you get to the center of the zipper, stop with your needle down and slide the zipper pull into the area that is already sewn, and comlete the stitching.

18. Repeat for the remaining five zipper pockets.

19. Fold the pocket in half and stitch the other 9” side to the opposite side of the zipper creating a pocket with the sides still open.

20. Place a pocket with the top of the zipper on the marked line 1” down from the top, centered between the two sides.

21. Stitch in place, sewing over the previous line of stitching.

22. Repeat for all pockets.

23. Snap on your Clear B Edge Joining Foot.

24. Adjust the needle position to -1.5. This will enable you to stitch on the edge of the ribbon.

25. Place the ribbon along the edge of the pockets covering the opening. Stitch the first side.

26. Touch Mirror side to side .

27. Begin back at the top and stitch the other side of the ribbon.

28. Repeat, stitching ribbon to the other side of the pockets.

29. Place rick rack along the curved edge of the embroidered flap.

30. Snap on your Clear ¼” Piecing Foot w/Guide and select straight stitch A1:2 .

31. Stitch the rick rack in place.

32. Place the embroidered flap piece right sides together with the outer grid quilted piece. Stitch.

33. Place the lining flap piece right sides toether with the inner piece with pockets. Stitch.

34. Cut the remaining ribbon into two pieces.

35. Place the end of one of the ribbon pieces centered, on the curved flap. The raw edge of the ribbon should be even with the raw edge of the fabric.

36. Stitch in place.

37. Place the outer kit bag right sides together with the inner kit bag.

38. Stitch around the kit bag leaving a 6” opening to turn on one long side.

39. Trim the curved edge with pinking shears.

40. Clip the corners, turn and press.

41. Sew the opening closed.

42. Place a pin in the center of the bottom of the second pocket down. This is the location for the second ribbon. On the outside of the bag, fold under the raw edge of the ribbon and place where the pin is. Remove the pin from the inside of the bag and pin the ribbon in place.

43. Stitch the ribbon in place.

Fill with all your goodies and you are ready to go to class!
