It was established vide MHRD GOI No. F.9-31/2006-U.3 (A) dated: 30/05/2008 of Govt. of India. Sri Siddhartha Medical College and Sri Siddhartha Dental College have been functioning as constituent colleges of Sri Siddhartha Academy of Higher Education since 01/06/2008. Further as per Govt. of India notification vide No. F.9-31/2006-U.3(A) Dtd. 16/12/2008, the UGC in exercise of the powers conferred by Section 3 of the UGC Act, 1956, included Sri Siddhartha Institute of Technology, Maralur, Tumkur, as an off-campus constituent teaching unit of Sri Siddhartha Academy of Higher Education, Tumkur with effect from 06/03/2009. Sponsoring body, Sri Siddhartha Education Society was established in the year1959 with the soles whole objective of imparting education and knowledge to one and all in general and in particular to “Reach the Unreached” and also to “Touch the Untouched. The society was established by a veteran freedom fighter Dr. Sri. H.M. Gangadharaiah when poor and backward classes of people had no access to the education and knowledge. At that time it was the vision and the mission of the founder to provide education to the rural masses. Today the total numbers of institutions run by the Society crosses 85 with a total students strength of more than 16000 and staff strength 1800. The main objective of the society is to “REACH THE UNREACHED” in the field of Education, Health Care and Social Empowerment. Sri Siddhartha has grown to be the hub of higher education and Health Care in the rural region of Karnataka, comprising the Tumkur, Chitradurga districts and the rural areas of northwest Bangalore, with: 1. The Medical College and hospital located in a vast campus of 250 acres of the side of Bangalore–Honnavar National highway, 76 Km from Bangalore city well connected by road and railway. 2. 21 buildings, built area of about 75,000 sq. mts 3. Highly qualified and experienced teaching faculty. 4. Excellent teaching facilities 5. Diversified professional courses SSAHE is committed to excellence in education, research, outreach and inclusiveness through discovery, purpose and application the university meets challenges and converts ideas into reality. After the establishment of the University, there are continuous and ongoing efforts to improve the overall status of Health Care, Education and Research. The University is known for its innovative projects in teaching and learning. It is known as pioneer institution, not only in the State but in the also in the Nation, for implementing very innovative and effective methodologies in Teaching, Learning and Research. The six most innovative projects implemented by for the first time in the country are: 1. Z-A Technique or Answer first and discuss next methodology in teaching: where in students read first, come to the class and discuss it with the faculty members during the class. 2. PLEASE project: Participative Leadership in Education and Social Empowerment where in higher Education students teach higher primary school children for overall development in Education and Research. The University has adopted two districts, Tumakuru and Hasana for this project. This project has been submitted to WHO and UNICEF for global implementation. 3. Green Graduation: A sustainable environment project where in students will plant the saplings as soon as they join the University and take care of those plants during their course. 4. Student Research Programs directly under the Vice Chancellor: Students are allowed to submit their abstracts directly to the Vice Chancellor’s email id: [email protected]. All research projects approved by the VC and Research Committee are totally funded by the University. 5. International and National Tele- Medicine Projects: University is tied up with Universities in Uganda, Africa for International Tele Medicine projects. 6. Stem Cell Projects: Sri Siddhartha University is one of the very few Universities to start Stem Cell courses. With these Innovative Practices in the University there is significant growth. This includes: 1. Thirty percent increase in research articles 2. Fifty Increase in intra mural research Grants 3. Forty increase in extra mural grants 4. Twenty percent increase in students 5. Twenty percent increase in free Health Care at our Rural and urban Health Care centers. 6. Thirty increase in Free Health Care in University Hospital. GOALS Providing high quality medical graduates not only competent in their respective fields, but are also motivated to serve humanity at large.
