  • Long-Term Population Growth in Regional Queensland
LONG-TERM POPULATION GROWTH IN REGIONAL QUEENSLAND March 2015 LONG-TERM POPULATION GROWTH IN REGIONAL QUEENSLAND 1.0 INTRODUCTION Over a period of time, major changes have been taking place in the distribution of population in regional Queensland outside of the south-east corner of the State. This paper sets out: o This changing pattern and the leading role of Cairns and the Cairns region in this changing pattern; o Why this consistent pattern of change has been happening over a period of time; and o On a continuation of these long-term trends, what regional population in Queensland would look like by 2050. This paper has been prepared by Cummings Economics for the Cairns Regional Council. W S Cummings B Econ 38 Grafton St (PO Box 2148) Cairns Q 4870 Phones 07 4031 2888 / 0418 871 011 Email [email protected] Website www.cummings.net.au CUMMINGS ECONOMICS ABN: 99 734 489 175 Ref: J2806 March 2015 Page /33 2 LONG-TERM POPULATION GROWTH IN REGIONAL QUEENSLAND 2.0 THE QUEENSLAND REGIONS Queensland outside of the south-east corner of the State covers a large area. Realities of distances lead to the area being served by a series of regional capitals with distinct commercial servicing regions. Map 1 shows these regional capitals and the commercial regions they serve. In the case of Cairns, Townsville, Mackay and Toowoomba, the regional capitals and their commercial servicing areas are fairly clear. Although Rockhampton is the regional capital of the Fitzroy and Central West region, unlike Cairns, Townsville and Mackay, the region’s port is not located at the city, but 100km away at Gladstone.

It includes reference information which will be useful for understanding Flood Warnings and River Height Bulletins issued by the Bureau's Flood Warning Centre during periods of high rainfall and flooding. Contained in this document is information about: (Last updated September 2019) Flood Risk Previous Flooding Flood Forecasting Local Information Flood Warnings and Bulletins Interpreting Flood Warnings and River Height Bulletins Flood Classifications Other Links Looking upstream at Beenleigh on the Albert River Flood Risk The Logan River has a catchment area of about 3850 square kilometres and lies in the south east corner of Queensland. The catchment extends from the Logan City-Beenleigh area in the north to the McPherson Ranges in the south on the Queensland-NSW border. The major tributaries are the Albert River and Teviot Brook. Smaller tributaries include Running, Christmas, Burnett and Canungra Creeks in the headwaters. Major flooding is experienced in both rural and urban areas of the catchment although major flooding in the upper part of the catchment does not necessarily result in significant flooding in the lower catchment. Scrubby and Slacks Creeks in the lower reaches of the Logan River can be subject to flash flooding as well as backwater flooding during major river flood events. Previous Flooding Records of large floods in the Logan-Albert Rivers extend back as far as 1887, and since then there have been several major flood events.

  • Gold in Central Queensland
73 GOLD OCCURRENCES IN CENTRAL QUEENSLAND Extract from the Queensland Mining Guide No attempt is made in this portion of the Mining Guide to deal with the past history of the various mining fields or to describe the many mines being worked in the State. The object rather is to show - both to the individual prospector and to the mining investor - some of the mining possibilities of each of the districts mentioned, passing reference being made to particular mines in certain cases only. Slight reference only has been made to geological features. The relative importance of deposits and districts mentioned cannot be gauged by the lengths of the references in these notes. On many of the old fields the conditions are well known, or can be ascertained at the main centres. Special attention has been drawn to some of the lesser known fields. Any person or company desirous of obtaining further details in relation to any of the nines, deposits, or localities referred to should communicate with the Department of Natural Resources, Mines and Energy Brisbane, or with the nearest Warden, Inspector of Mines, or District Geologist. General area covered by this report The Reworking of Deposits The fact that certain ore-bodies were worked years ago and were abandoned does not necessarily imply that such deposits cannot be worked profitably under different conditions. The metal market is always a primary factor in deciding the success or 1:250 000 scale maps failure of mining ventures. The utilization of First edition 1968/75 modern methods of mining and treatment may bring renewed life to some mines.
