She won the USTA Girls’ 18s title in 2006 to earn a wild card into the US Open, where she advanced to the second round of the women’s singles main draw. Madison Brengle Age: 23 (4/3/1990) Hometown: Dover, Del. Career-High Ranking: 152 (April 2011) Brengle won her fourth career professional title in February 2013 at the $25,000 USTA Pro Circuit event in Rancho Santa Fe, Calif. In 2011, she ascended to a career-best ranking of No. 152 and won the $25,000 USTA Pro Circuit event in Hammond, La. Annika Beck is off the mark: the Porsche Team Germany player won the Luxembourg Open and at the same time celebrated her first career WTA title. In Saturday’s final, the 20-year old was an easy 6-2, 6-1 victor against the Czech Bar- bora Zahlavova Strycova. Last year saw Annika Beck lose the final of the 250,000 dollar indoor tournament in the Grand Duchy. However this time around against Barbora Zahlavova Strycova, the 2012 French Open junior champion converted her first match point after one hour 33 minutes to record her first ever win on the WTA-Tour. It was the fifth WTA title this year for a Porsche Team Germany player – the previous winners were Andrea Petkovic in Charleston and Nuremberg, Mona Barthel in Bastad und Sabine Lisicki in Hong Kong. Representing the Porsche Talent Team Germany, Anna-Lena Friedsam won her first WTA tournament when triumphing in Suzhou, China in September. Winning the title at each major in the same year is known as the “Grand Slam”. Three women have completed the singles Grand Slam in a calendar year: 1953 – Maureen Connolly; 1970 – Margaret Court; 1988 – Stefanie Graf. A further seven women have won each Grand Slam singles title at least once in their careers (known as the career Grand Slam): Doris Hart, Shirley Fry, Billie Jean King, Chris Evert, Martina Navratilova, Serena Williams and Maria Sharapova, with Navratilova (1983-84) and Williams (2002-03, 2014-15) holding all four titles at the same time. Australia’s Margaret Court holds the record for all-time Grand Slam singles titles (men or women) with 24 titles, ahead of Serena Williams, who holds the Open Era record with 23 Grand Slam singles titles.
