We are delighted to have you as a participant and look forward to meeting you. Please go through some essential information in this document that is intended to make your travel and accommodation for the short course more comfortable. Note: 1. Campus map of AU College of Engineering (A) are given at the end of the document. 2. Please bring a scientific calculator along with you to participate in problem solving during lectures and tutorial sessions. In addition, MATLAB project participants are required to bring Laptop with MATLAB preferably R13 or later to participate in the MATLAB projects to be conducted on 10th January, 2020. Participants should also download and install CVX optimization software for MATLAB. AU College of Engineering campus is located in Maddilapalem area. AU College of Engineering is located at a distance of about 4.5 Kilometers from the Visakhapatnam Railway Station, 3 Kilometers from RTC complex. Taxis are available from the Visakhapatnam Railway Station (from Platform number 1). There is a pre-paid auto and taxi booth. The rates are about Rs. 200/- to 250/- for a taxi and Rs. 50/- for an auto-rickshaw. You can also avail Ola and Uber cab services. Important note: Please note that transportation has to be arranged by the participant and the associated charges have to be borne by the participant. These are not covered in the registration fees. Air connectivity Visitors coming over to Visakhapatnam, popularly known as Vizag, can fly into Visakhapatnam Airport. One can avail the taxis at the airport taxi-stand.     II. IN-PROGRESS PROJECTS (1) Remodeling of Gurajada Kalakshetram: Total extent of Acs.2.00Cts MS Tubular trusses and Poly carbonate roof sheet to roof of Area – 3000Sqmt. Seating Capacity – 3000Nos Total project cost is Rs.980Lakhs. The works are in progress and nearing completion stage. (2) Conversion of Aircraft TU -142 into Museum, Visakhapatnam: The Aircraft Museum is located at R.K Beach, VIsakhapatnam. Re-assembly of the Aircraft and the works of facade, entrance way tunnel, entrance and exit pathways, landscaping and garden works, external electrification etc., are completed. Miscellaneous works are in progress. Project cost - Rs.10 Crores. Project was inaugurated by Hon’ble President of India on 07.12.2017. (3) Development of Flyover at NAD Junction: VUDA has taken the project of “Construction of Flyover at NAD Junction, Visakhapatnam” to overcome the Traffic problems with sustainable urban junction solution for a seamless Pedestrian and Vehicular movement, signal-free at the Intersection. The work has been entrusted to the contracting agency, M/s.Vijay Nirman Company Ltd., Visakhapatnam for an amount of Rs.113.61Cr vide Letter of Acceptance (LOA) issued dated 07.10.2017 on EPC mode of contract. The agreement was concluded dated 18.11.2017. The contract period is 24 months. The contracting agency has commenced the project works viz., preparatory works, soil investigations, survey works etc. The works are in progress. (4) Development of footpaths to Beach road from Thennati Park to Thimmapuram at IT SEZ. Improvements and landscaping of roads such as development of Foot paths etc., Length of the road to be developed is 11 KMs.

Noise pollution a form of air pollution, is a threat to health and well-being .It is more severe and wide spread than even before, and it will continue to increase in magnitude and severity because of population growth, urbanization and the associated growth in the use of increasingly powerful, varied and highly mobile sources of noise. Noise is a serious environmental problem that requires attention. Visakhapatnam is a developing city having road, rail, air and sea transport connecting all parts of country. Day by day development causes a noisy environment in the city.In the present study, a noise survey is carried out in some residential areas in Visakhapatnam. Noise levels are monitored during peak traffic periods (9:00am to 10:00am, 12:00 noon to 1:00pm, 5:00pm to 6:00pm )with an interval of 30 seconds. Equivalent noise levels are calculated and compared with CPCB standards. Remedial measures are discussed. In order to suggest the remedial measures attenuation studies are also carried out using three barrier materials wood, glass and masonry. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________ 1. INTRODUCTION Noise Pollution is defined as unwanted sound, undesired by the recipient. Defined physically it is intense and complex sound without agreeable musical quality.
