CALIFORNIA CHROME took command soon after the break, moved clear leaving the first turn and set the pace well off the inside and under a light hold, widened the advantage leaving the far turn, had his rider take a few peeks back leaving the quarter pole, dropped in towards the fence in upper stretch and put to a solid hand ride, remained clear under the whip past the eighth pole, kept on gamely but simply could not contain the winner's charge. KEEN ICE was bumped soon after the break, was guided to the rail and settled well back, came under pressure leaving the far turn, advanced outside FROSTED into the lane, brushed with that one while working between foes, churned on and gained the show. HOPPERTUNITY, unhurried early while saving ground, came under a solid ride near the far turn, swung out four wide in upper stretch then lacked the needed response. MELATONIN prompted the pace outside of CALIFORNIA CHROME, raced four to five wide past the five eighths, came under pressure trying to keep pace leaving the three eighths, gave futile chase three wide into the lane and faded. FROSTED was bumped soon after the break, saved ground while in range around the first turn, stayed inside while under a ride past the five sixteenths, brushed with KEEN ICE near the three sixteenths and gave way. EFFINEX came out a few strides out of the gate and bumped FROSTED, moved up between foes to stalk the early pace, settled outside FROSTED mid way through the backstretch run, had no response leaving the far turn, dropped back and drifted out very wide in upper stretch. WAR STORY broke in air then bobbled to be away last, was very rank through the opening quarter mile, finally settled around the first turn but failed make an impact. WIN THE SPACE was bumped and forced out in the opening yards, raced off the rail, faltered nearing the lane and was eased in the final furlong and was walked off. Racing, with its broken system, has proven unable to police itself and the result has been that cheaters have prospered and have done so at the expense of the vast majority of horsemen who do things right. Armed with syringes, the bad guys have been stealing money from the good guys. Lots of it. Which is exactly why every honest horsemen should be 100% behind the Horseracing Integrity Safety and Integrity Act (HISA). It will give them a fighting chance. HISA is not a magic bullet and it will not solve all of the sport=s problems. Cheating will never go away totally. What HISA will do is to usher in a competent, effective system to police the sport.
