Water is put through several different purity tests and TCEQ makes the determination of the rating quality based on results. The City of Houston has been using a chloramine disinfection process for years as an effective, long-lasting drinking water disinfectant. According to the American Water Works Association, the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recognizes chloramine disinfection as the best available technology under the Safe Drinking Water Act.
