BRAVE - Thursday, 3rd January Merida is a skilled archer and impetuous daughter of King Fergus (Billy Connolly) and Queen Elinor (Emma Thompson). Determined to carve her own path in life, Merida defies an age-old custom sacred to the uproarious lords of the land: massive Lord MacGuffin (Kevin McKidd), surly Lord Macintosh (Craig Ferguson) and cantankerous Lord Dingwall (Robbie Coltrane). When Bella Swan (Kristen Stewart) reluctantly moved to the perpetually overcast town of Forks, WA, and set out to carve a niche for herself, she assumed it would be one similar to the low-profile social position she held back in Phoenix. First on the list of surprises was the unfamiliar attention from the male population of her new high school; second, the attention from one male in particular: Edward Cullen, Vampire (Robert Pattinson). James, known for his powerful tracking ability, becomes obsessed with making Bella his next victim. This year, SIFF will screen 440 films: 198 features (plus 4 secret films), 60 documentaries, 14 archival films, and 168 shorts, representing 83 countries. The films include 44 World premieres (20 features, 24 shorts), 30 North American premieres (22 features, 8 shorts), and 14 US premieres (8 features, 6 shorts). As film critic after film critic stumbled over Screenwriter’s Monthly can be found themselves to call his performance everything from "original" to at the following fine locations: "eccentric," they forgot one thing: the screenwriters, Ted Elliott and Terry Rossio, who did one heck of a job creating Sparrow on paper first. Sure, some critics mentioned the writers when they declared the film "cliché" and attacked it. Since the previous Walt Disney Los Angeles film based on one of its theme park attractions was the unbear- able The Country Bears, Pirates of the Caribbean is surprisingly Above The Fold 370 N.     PRODUCTION BIOGRAPHIES COURTNEY KEMP AGBOH (Creator, Showrunner, Executive Producer) Courtney Kemp Agboh started her career in the magazine world, publishing articles in GQ, Vibe, and Marie Claire. She then left New York to pursue television writing, starting out in comedy on “The Bernie Mac Show” (Fox), and transitioning into one-hour drama, with stints on “Eli Stone” (ABC) and “The Good Wife” (CBS), among others. She is the creator and show runner of “Power,” which in its first season doubled viewership from its premiere episode to its finale and generated the largest concentration of African American viewership of any scripted premium series since 2006. Kemp Agboh holds a B.A. from Brown University in English Literature and received her M.A. in English literature from Columbia University. She lives in Los Angeles. DAVID KNOLLER (Executive Producer, Director Episodes 203, 205) Working first as an actor in theater, television and film, David Knoller segued into live television producing, while still directing theater and teaching acting in the Los Angeles area. He produced Specials for CBS and HBO, and was soon asked to join Home Box Office as an executive. Victor Frankenstein Frankenstein: The Modern Prometheus (1818) Course Description and Objectives Communication 323, Science Fiction Cinema, will primarily focus on the examination of the North American science fiction film genre. The readings, lectures, and screenings are organized historically to facilitate an understanding of the evolution of science fiction cinema within a cultural context. The course is also designed to expand the student's understanding of the critical/cultural theoretical approaches most commonly employed in the analysis of science fiction texts. The format for each class will consist of lecture, screening, and discussion. Assigned readings and screenings must be completed on time to facilitate the class discussions. Students are expected to watch at least one assigned film outside of class each week.
