  • Church and Churchyard Memorial Inscriptions
CHURCH AND CHURCHYARD MEMORIAL INSCRIPTIONS St MARY’S CHURCH FROME St QUINTIN INTRODUCTION Transcripts of the memorial stones in the church and churchyard of St. Mary’s Church, Frome St. Quintin were first made in 1986 by members of the Frome Valley History Society, led by Wendy Wright of Holywell House, Holywell.. The work was revised in 2009 by Graham and Jennifer Browne of Frome Farm House, Frome St. Quintin. The transcripts have been made to the best of our ability, bearing in mind the effects of weathering over sometimes quite a long period of time, and we believe them to be a true record of the material at the time of reading. In reading the following transcripts, the slashes represent the end of the line on the tombstone or memorial to guide the readers in finding the actual words for themselves. Where there is doubt about the actual wording due to erosion of the materials, either question marks or dashes will be found. The numbers on the plan reflect those of the typescript records. For further details of the men whose names appear on the two war memorials in the church, refer to the ‘Book of Remembrance’. • Coarse Fishing Close Season on English Rivers
Coarse fishing close season on English rivers Appendix 1 – Current coarse fish close season arrangements The close season on different waters In England, there is a coarse fish close season on all rivers, some canals and some stillwaters. This has not always been the case. In the 1990s, only around 60% of the canal network had a close season and in some regions, the close season had been dispensed with on all stillwaters. Stillwaters In 1995, following consultation, government confirmed a national byelaw which retained the coarse fish close season on rivers, streams, drains and canals, but dispensed with it on most stillwaters. The rationale was twofold: • Most stillwaters are discrete waterbodies in single ownership. Fishery owners can apply bespoke angling restrictions to protect their stocks, including non-statutory close times. • The close season had been dispensed with on many stillwaters prior to 1995 without apparent detriment to those fisheries. This presented strong evidence in favour of removing it. The close season is retained on some Sites of Special Scientific Interest (SSSIs) and the Norfolk and Suffolk Broads, as a precaution against possible damage to sensitive wildlife - see Appendix 1. This consultation is not seeking views on whether the close season should be retained on these stillwaters While most stillwater fishery managers have not re-imposed their own close season rules, some have, either adopting the same dates as apply to rivers or tailoring them to their waters' specific needs. Canals The Environment Agency commissioned a research project in 1997 to examine the evidence around the close season on canals to identify whether or not angling during the close season was detrimental to canal fisheries.

From the editors ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Many of us lucky enough to reside in the folds of the Dorset landscape cannot but be thankful that we live among a friendly, caring and tranquil society. Where there is noise a-plenty from the birds and sounds of a working countryside, we are not discomfited by angry mobs and out of control individuals. We can walk or cycle by day or by night along the road and the paths, able to talk to each other and our neighbours as we go, unhindered by chaos and aggression. But we should be mindful of the horrors that do exist whether within some of the UK's towns and cities, or beyond in the wider world and we should all strive to influence a better attitude which we can all roll out into the world around us.

Date: Tue, 5 May 2020 at 15:25 Subject: Letter from Dorset Council to Residents receiving support during COVID Crisis To: Sheila Crouch <[email protected]> View this email in your browser Dear Friends and Neighbours. Theresa Leavy of Dorset Council has asked us to share this letter with you which contains some important information about the ongoing support of vulnerable people in our communities across Dorset. With warm wishes as always, Jon at #HelpAndKindness Dear colleague Firstly, can I thank you for everything you ve been doing to help with the COVID-19 community response efforts in Dorset. Many vulnerable people of all ages may have been self-isolating for some weeks by now. We have written to around 15,000 shielded people today to let them know we re thinking of them, and to check they have everything they need to keep them healthy and happy during this time. Click here to download a copy of that letter. We know there are probably more people across the county who are not necessarily shielding but do not have the help and support they need. 2 of 4 05/05/2020, 19:02 Gmail - Fwd: Letter from Dorset Council to Residents receiving suppor... https://mail.google.com/mail/u/0?ik=3022ef754f&view=pt&search=a... We re asking you to please help us spread the word among your residents and anyone who may use your services of the various ways they can get in touch if they need help and support during these times.
