The School

Sedbergh School, founded in 1525 by , Provost of Eton, is an Independent Co-educational . The Headmaster is a member of the Headmasters’ and Headmistresses’ Conference. Set in the spectacular Dales National Park, the School also benefits from fast motorway and rail access to the rest of the UK.

The School is a vibrant, demanding and supportive community which encourages pupils and staff to be involved in as broad a range of activities and interests as possible. Art, Drama and Music are especially strong, and the School has a national reputation for Sport. Sedbergh has its own Prep School located approximately five miles away at Casterton.

The Principal, Mr A A P Fleck BSc, MA, acts as the “Chief Executive” of both Schools and is supported by a number of senior managers. Mr D J Harrison MA (Cantab) is the Headmaster of Sedbergh Senior School. Mr W R Newman MA is Headmaster of Sedbergh Prep School.

The Chief Operating Officer, Peter Marshall, is responsible to the Headmaster and Governors for the management of all the administration and support staff. The COO has responsibility not only for the finances of the School, but also for the extensive land and buildings, maintenance department, grounds & gardens, catering, housekeeping & domestic staff and all other support staff, as well as running the commercial trading arm of the School, Sedbergh School Developments Limited. The Position

The Book Room is a small ‘shop’ located in the main School buildings and enables both pupils and staff to purchase a variety of stationery items and textbooks.

The purpose of this role is two-fold. Firstly, to support the provision of a stationery service to both staff and pupils. Our ideal candidate will manage the day-to-day function of the Book Room, helping the Book Room Manager to ensure that the School has adequate supplies of all stationery for both the pupils and staff.

Secondly, to assist in supporting the reprographic provision for the Headmaster’s Office and the Common Room. The post-holder will also help to provide and support routine administrative duties in the Headmaster’s Office. The post holder will report to the School Secretary.

Safeguarding of Children

Safeguarding the welfare of children is of the highest priority to Sedbergh School. Every employee of the school has a responsibility to:

Protect Children from abuse; Be aware of the School’s safeguarding procedures; Know how to access and implement the required procedures; Keep a sufficient record of any significant complaint, conversation or event; Report any matters of concern to the Designated Safeguarding Lead; Attend annual in-service training provided by the School.

Duties

Book Room

To be available in the Book Room during morning Breaktime, ensuring that the shop is open for pupils and staff; To carry out the selling process – entering details onto WCBS, ensuring that pupils and Departments are recharged for items purchased; To order required items, ensuring the stock providers remain competitive with the cost of stock; To unpack any deliveries, ensuring all items received and highlight any discrepancies to the Book Room Manager; To ensure that staff are updated when ordered stationary is available for collection; To add/delete stocked items onto the WCBS database; To complete any administration relating to the Book Room; To carry out a regular stocktake; To carry out any other reasonable duties within the function and responsibility of the post.

Headmaster’s Office

To undertake reprographic duties in support of the Common Room and senior staff; To laminate documents and posters for staff and pupils, as required; To undertake with filing for the Principal and HM’s PAs, upon request; To assist the School Secretary and PAs with routine administrative tasks; Provide ad hoc cover for the main switchboard and Reception, dealing with visitors, deliveries and enquiries.
