He also threw down a dramatic first half dunk that was tagged as ESPN SportsCenter's top play of the day. It marked the second time in three years a Keydet basketball player had attained the accolade as Stan Okoye's dunk against Ohio State snagged the top spot November 23, 2011.

First Win Over Service Academy Since...: VMI’s win over Air Force on Nov. 9 to win the All-Military Classic marked VMI’s first win over a service academy since the season opener for the 2009-10 season, when the Keydets beat Army 93-86 at Cameron Hall.

Covington Named Preseason All-Big South: VMI center D.J. Covington, last year’s con- ference Defensive Player of the Year, was named to the league’s preseason all-conference team at the Big South’s Media Day in October. Last year, he tied for the conference lead in blocks per game with 3.0 per contest, a mark that also put him in the top 10 in Division I. He set a new school record with his 93 blocks and moved into third in VMI history in that stat, while offensively, he aver- aged 15 points and 7.2 rebounds per contest, both easily career highs. In the team balloting, the Keydets received two first-place votes, but finished 11 points behind third-place Radford in the tabulation, 104 to 93. High Point (25 first-place votes, 175 pts.) was pre- dicted to win the division, with Liberty finishing second (137 pts.). Charleston Southern, who grabbed 28 of 30 potential first-place votes, was the near unanimous pick in the South Division.

Last Year In The BSC: 2013-14 will be VMI’s final year in the Big South after 11 years in the league and will move back to the Southern Conference for the 2014-15 season. The Keydets are looking to go out on a high note - For a historical comparison, VMI was 10-20 (3-13 in conference) in its final year in the Southern Conference before moving to the Big South, 2002-03.
