SIGNIFICANT WEATHER FEATURES • The low pressure area of the previous week persisted over West Uttar Pradesh and neighbourhood for about three days and has caused fairly widespread to widespread rainfall activity with heavy to very heavy and extremely heavy falls over Western Himalayan Region and adjoining plains of northwest India in the beginning of the week. • A low pressure area formed over East Uttar Pradesh & neighbourhood during the second half of the week and has caused intense rainfall activity over West Bengal & Sikkim, Bihar, Jharkhand, East Uttar Pradesh and northern parts of Chattisgarh and East . • Fairly widespread to wide spread rainfall with heavy to very heavy falls had been reported from northeastern states. • Subdued rainfall activity prevailed over parts of west, central and south peninsula during the week.

Monsoon Activity • It had been active over Madhya Pradesh on one day each during the week.

Heavy Rainfall Activity • Heavy to very heavy rain had been reported over West Madhya Pradesh.

Temperature • The highest maximum temperature of 36.0 0 C was recorded at Akola( Vidarbha ) on 28th July 2018 over the plains of the country during the week.

METEOROLOGICAL ANALYSIS

• Last week’s cyclonic circulation over northern parts of Bangladesh lay over Bangladesh and adjoining West Bengal between 1.5 km & 5.8 km above mean sea level on 26 th July 2018. It lay over northern parts of West Bengal & neighbourhood between 0.6 km & 7.6 km above mean sea level with the upper part tilting southwards with height on 27 th ; It lay over eastern parts of Bihar & neighbourhood between the same levels on 28 th . It persisted over the same region and extended up to 5.8 km above mean sea level on 29 th . Under its influence, a low pressure area has formed over northeast Uttar Pradesh & neighbourhood with the associated cyclonic circulation extending upto 5.8 km above mean sea level tilting south-southwestwards with height on 30 th . It lay over central parts of Uttar Pradesh with the associated cyclonic extending upto 5.8 km above mean seal level on 31 July 2018. It lay over East Uttar Pradesh & neighbourhood with the associated cyclonic circulation extending upto 4.5 km above mean sea level and tilting southwestwards with height on 1 st August. • Last week’s east-west shear zone at 7.6 km above mean sea level roughly along Lat.20°N across peninsular India has become less marked on 26 th July 2018. • A cyclonic circulation at 7.6 km above mean sea level lay over Interior Odisha and neighbourhood on 26 th July 2018 and it has merged with the cyclonic circulation over northern parts of West Bengal & neighbourhood between 0.6 & 7.6 km above mean sea level on 27 th July 2018. • A trough in mid & upper air tropospheric westerlies ran with its axis at 7.6 Km above mean sea level roughly along Long. 65° E to the north of Lat. 32° N on 26 th July 2018. It ran roughly along Long. 70°E to the north of Lat. 32°N in the same level on 27 th & 28 th . It was seen with its axis at 5.8 Km above mean sea level roughly along Long. 72°E to the north of Lat. 34°N on 29 th .With its axis at the same level, it was seen roughly along Long. 72°E to north of Lat. 32°N on 30 th & 31 st July 2018 and on 01 st August 2018. • A cyclonic circulation at 7.6 km above mean sea level lay over SouthWest Bay of Bengal off north Tamilnadu-south Andhra Pradesh coasts on 27 th July 2018 and it has become less marked on 28 th July 2018.

A cyclonic circulation lay over north coastal Odisha & neighbourhood between 5.8 km & 7.6 km above mean sea level on 29 th July 2018. It persisted and was seen between 3.6 km & 7.6 km above mean sea level, tilting southwards with height on 30 th ; It lay over NorthWest Bay of Bengal off Odisha West - Bengal coasts and was seen between 5.8 & 7.6 km above mean sea level 31 st and it has merged with the cyclonic circulation over south Bangladesh and adjoining Gangetic West Bengal on 1 st August • A trough ran eastwards from the cyclonic circulation associated with the low pressure system over northeast Uttar Pradesh & neighbourhood to Assam across Bihar and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and extended upto 2.1 km above mean sea level on 30 th . It ran from the cyclonic circulation associated with the low pressure system over central parts of Uttar Pradesh to Assam across Bihar & Sub- Himalayan West Bengal and continued to extend upto 2.1 km above mean sea level on 31 st July 2018. This east ward running trough from the low pressure system has become less marked on 1 st August 2018. • A cyclonic circulation extending upto 1.5 km above mean sea level lay over Bangladesh and • adjoining Gangetic West Bengal embedded in the trough from the cyclonic circulation over northeast Uttar Pradesh & neighbourhood to Assam across Bihar and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal 31 st July 2018.It lay over south Bangladesh and adjoining Gangetic West Bengal and extended upto 7.6 km above mean sea level tilting southwestwards with height on 1 st August 2018. • An east-west shear zone at 7.6 km above mean sea level ran roughly along Lat. 18° N across Peninsular India on 1 st August 2018.
