It was August of 1953 when Cristil sent audition tapes in to Mississippi State when he heard of a job opening. MSU athletic director C.R. “Dudy” Noble hired Cristil that fall and he began his current career with the start of the 1953 football season. From 1955-85, Cristil also served as play-by-play announcer (broadcasting games for Tupelo High School and Itawamba Junior College) and advertising salesman for WELO radio in Tupelo, Miss, where he has resided since ‘55. He also served as sales manager for WTVA television in Tupelo beginning in 1986.
