Required equipment: A binder (to organize class notes , quizzes, tests and handouts), notepaper, a pen and/or pencil.

Handouts: Handouts will be handed out periodically throughout the semester. These should be kept in your notebook. If you miss a handout it is your responsibility to get one. Do not disrupt class to get one, arrange to get it after class.

Homework and Reading Assignments: Instructor will assign reading assignments and homework at his discretion. It is the students responsibility to ask for and to turn in all make-up work. Homework will be due at the next class session (one week later). Late homework will be given ½ credit. If you are absent you can e-mail me your homework or make arrangements in advance. I can e-mail your homework that you have missed due to absence or if you failed to get it. Some assignments will be web based. As a Laney student you have access to library and computer lab computers to do your course work. You will need to have a valid student ID card to access school computers. Computer labs allow a number of pages to be printed per student each day.

Grading Policy:

80% of your grade is Tests, Quizzes, and Homework 20% of your grade is Participation

A – Excellent B – Good C - Average D- Needs improvement F - Failing

Attendance Policy: Attendance affects your grade in several ways. If you come in late you will miss important lecture information that you will need to know for tests and quizzes, and you will be getting credit for participation that will be directly influenced by if you are here. Lectures start at the beginning of class. if for some reason you will be repeatedly late, make sure you let me know.

Participation: Although this is technically a lecture class, there are many components of safety that will need to be done hands-on to understand. Students will be expected to participate in the demonstrations and practices.

Drops: Students are responsible for dropping from classes Last day to drop regular session classes without receiving a “W” Last day to receive a “W”

Cell Phones: No cell phone use during lectures. At other times short calls taken outside are acceptable.

Health and Safety: Smoking is not permitted anywhere on campus, this is a no smoking campus. To smoke you will have to go all the way out to the city sidewalk.

Academic honesty: There will be no use of cell phones or digital devises during tests or quizzes. Copying another student’s answers during tests and quizzes will result in no credit for that problem. Plagiarism occurs when a student misrepresents the work of another as his or her own. Plagiarism may consist of using the ideas, sentences, paragraphs, or whole text of another without appropriate acknowledgement, but it also includes employing or allowing another person to write or substantially alter work that a student submits as his or her own.
