I interviewed a family friend named Ted Brady who was born in .

How long did you live in Ireland for? Twenty-three years

What part of Ireland did you live in? Lived in county , which used to be the last part of call for the titanic, and the Lusitania they used to sail from south Hampton to queens town. Queens’s town was before Cobh. Everyone who went to Ireland went through Cobh.

Why did you move to America? Adventure, travel agent, had booked a lot of friends on J1 visas. Has spent 18 years in America.

What is your favorite and least favorite thing about Ireland? Least Favorite: Weather was lousy. Favorite: People, didn’t learn that until moved to America.

How do you see Ireland’s economy? Recently, voted by business magazine, to be the number one country to do business. They made mistakes like everyone else. Ireland is a knowledgeable country, and so is the work force. Can be strong but weak at the moment. Strategically located bridge for Europe. 1,000 international countries base there. Suffering just the same as this country as suffered. Over all, good.

What do you think are the next steps of helping Ireland’s economy? Seem to be doing everything as they can. Not sure, little out of the loop. Encouraging far in investment, Ireland is good at that.

How did Ireland’s economy affect you and your family? It didn’t, the dad is an architect, he has a well-established company, and it’s his own business. He Left before that 1995-2008 Celtic tiger.

Did you have a job in Ireland? If so, what was it? Was a travel agent for 5 years working for Barters Travel in the city of Cork, is the oldest travel agency in Ireland. Barters Travel was created in 1865.

What were your parent’s jobs? Dad was architect, mom was stay home mom.

What do you think about young people finding jobs in Ireland today? Very difficult, unless in technology sector, technology sector is certainly strong.

What advice would you give to the young adults in Ireland? They all seem to be pretty good at making it to high school and college. Stay with that program and stay in education!!!!!!

What is your favorite type of Irish food? Irish stew.

What was your typical Irish dinner? Dinner-Meat, spuds (potatoes), and two vegetables. Breakfast-bacon, eggs, sausage Lunch-Sandwich

Have you ever eaten boxty? If so, do you like it or no? No haven’t eaten it before.

How was the weather in Ireland? It’s Grey. Gloomy. There could be four seasons in one day.

Live in City or Countryside? Countryside. 3 miles in the town of Cobh, .

Transportation? Beofre 17, if I didn’t bike, 17 driving. Used car when it was available.

Rule ages? Driving-17, 18 full license Alchohal-18

Did you attend a Private or Public School? Boarding school, which was private, named Middleton college. Was 14 miles away from home. 1st year, only allowed one weekend per semester. School Saturday morning. Had to wear a Uniform Founded 1696, right beside Jamison Beury All friends lived in same area.

College? Attended Saint Johns College in Cork City. Which was a Technical college. Attended for 2 years, and studied traveling in tourism. Observed that people have more fun in college here in America.

School system? Don’t have middle school National schools 5 years of age, 11-12 6 years of high school from 12-17-18

Differences of Ireland and America? Weather is better in America, planning events is much easier. Being able to Ski, Surf in America.

Last time you visited Ireland? September last year

Do you prefer America or Ireland? America because of the better climate. As they say the grass is greener elsewhere.
