Fasting of the Pregnant Woman Who Is in Good Health

Question: My wife is pregnant and I am worried that she might have difficulty fasting. She is in good health other than normal throw ups, headaches and weakness in the joints. What is right that we should do? Should she fast no matter what she is feeling or she is excused from fast- ing and she should make up for it some latter time?

Answer: All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah, and that Muhammad, sal- lallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His slave and Messenger. A pregnant woman should not break the fast unless she fears for her health or the health of her fetus if she fasts. So, if she fears she may break the fast but she is obliged to make up any day she breaks the fast out of fear for her health and the health of her fetus. However, she is obliged to expiate for breaking the fast and make it up if she breaks the fast out of fear for the health of her fetus only and of fear for her own health. The expiation is to feed a poor person on each day she breaks the fast RAMADAN: out of fear for the health of her fetus. To conclude, a pregnant woman may break the fast if she fears for her health or the health of her fetus. Nonetheless, if the dif culty of fasting does not reach the level of fear- ing harm on the mother or the fetus, then she is not permitted to break the The greatest opportunity fast as there is no pregnancy without a hardship and weakness. Allah Knows best.

Giving Charity on Behalf of the Deceased

Question: Can one give charity food to the poor and orphans on behalf of the deceased or is it forbidden? People in India, Pakistan and most of the Islamic world have done so for generations.

Answer: All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His slave and Messenger. The best action which a living person could do for his deceased relative is to give charity on his/her behalf, i.e. donating while intending the reward for the deceased. ‘Aa’ishah, may Allah be pleased with her, narrated that a man came to the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, and said: “My mother died suddenly and I think that if she were able to speak, she would have given char- ity. May I give charity on her behalf? He, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, replied, “Yes! Give charity on her behalf.” [Al-Bukhaari and Muslim] It is also con rmed that Sa’d Ibn ‘Ubaadah, may Allah be pleased with him, asked the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, if he can give charity on behalf of his dead mother and he, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, permitted him to do so. [Al-Bukhaari] Indeed, the scholars, may Allah have mercy upon them, agreed in a consen- sus that charity and supplicating Allah to forgive the dead reaches them. Ibn Al-Mubaarak, may Allah have mercy upon him, said: ‘There is no difference of opinion that the reward of giving in charity on behalf of the dead reaches them.” Allah Knows best. UCC Holding celebrates World Day of Safety at Work TRIBUNE NEWS NETWORK DOHA

UCC Holding (UCC), the diversified business conglomerate, has launched a series of new Occupational Safety and Health Systems (OSH) awareness initiatives to commemo- rate World Day of Safety at Work, building on the company’s proven track record of health and safely excellence. World Day of Safety at Work is an inter- national event led by the International La- bour Organisation (ILO) that celebrates suc- cesses and contributions towards improving Safety throughout every part of a company or organisation. Reflecting on the global pandemic, this year’s theme is centred on anticipating, preparing, and responding to crises, with the motto “Invest Now in Re- silient Occupational Safety and Health Sys- tems”. UCC’s management team leveraged this global event to raise awareness and stimu- late dialogue around the importance of creating and investing in resilient OSH sys- tems, drawing on both regional and country examples in mitigating and preventing the spread of COVID-19 in the workplace. Hundreds of UCC colleagues marked the occasion by creating banners, memos, and social media posts to highlight exceptional achievements and initiatives that are helping to make the workplace safer for all. As well as sharing information and stories around HSE best practice, UCC colleagues were is- sued with branded protective helmets, high- vis vests, and other props to make it a day to remember. Moutaz Al-Khayyat, Chairman of UCC Holding, said: “Health and safety is our up- most priority every day. This year’s World Day of Safety at Work is particularly sig- nificant as UCC, like every global business, reflects on the valuable lessons learned fol- lowing the COVID-19 pandemic. “The current crisis demonstrates the importance of strengthening OSH systems, including occupational health services, and we are unwavering in our commitment to ensuring a healthy workplace for all. I would like to thank everyone at UCC for their great efforts today, and their continued commit- ment to health and safely excellence.” Economy & Business Friday, April 30, 2021 09 GIS posts QR705 million in Q1 revenue Gulf International Services’ revenue growth from insurance segment was entirely o set by reduction in revenue from all the other segments
