Population Las Cruces - 100,000 Doña Ana County - 210,000 Geographical location Las Cruces is located in southern New Mexico, at the foot of the Organ Mountains, along the banks of the Rio Grande and at the crossroads of Interstates 10 and 25. New Mexico State University (NMSU) is the Division I school in Las Cruces. NMSU has state-of-the-art facilities in place with Aggie Memorial Stadium, the Pan American Center, the University Golf Course, the Presley Askew Baseball and Softball Complex, the Tennis Center, Equestrian Center, Swimming and Diving Complex and Track and Field Center. NMSU has hosted many D-I sporting events including the 2007 and 2008 Western Athletic Conference Basketball Championships, the 2007 Western Athletic Conference Women’s Golf Championships, and the 2007 Western Athletic Conference Volleyball Championship. The James B. Delamater Activity Center is home to the Department of Physical Education, Recreation and Dance at NMSU. It is open to students, faculty, staff and their guests.
