Roberts, Sr. Luncheon held at Oak Cliff Bible Fellowship Church Activity Center on April 14. Ten years ago, Dr. Harry Robinson, Jr., Dr. Jesse Jai McNeil, Jr. and Dr. Alfred L. Roberts, Sr. envisioned the establishment of an organ- ization that would document and preserve the history and voices of those who changed the face of education for African American students in Dallas County. Beginning in 2003, the inaugural event recognized and honored senior educators who were 80+ years of age at a public reception. Since its inception, the AAEAHP has a collection of artifacts, documents and visual images as well as recorded interviews of people involved in the education experience of African American students. The efforts of the AAEAHP volunteers have resulted in eighty five individuals inducted into the AAEAHP Hall of Fame. A permanent pictorial exhibition of inductees (2004-2012) is located in the Helen Giddings Solarium in the African American Museum in historic Fair Park. Kennedy's assassination, Lyndon Baines Johnson remains a largely misunderstood figure. His force of personality, mastery of power and the political process, and boundless appetite for social reform made him one of the towering figures of his time. But he was one of the most protean and paradoxical of presidents as well. Because of his flawed nature and inherent contradictions, some claimed there were as many LBJs as there were people who knew him. Through original interviews and personal accounts from White House aides and Cabinet members, political allies and foes, and friends and family-from Robert McNamara to Barry Goldwater, Lady Bird Johnson to Jacqueline Kennedy-as well as through Johnson's own candid reflections and historic White House telephone conversa- tions, Indomitable Will reveals LBJ as never before. " For it is through firsthand nar- rative more than anything," writes Updegrove, "that Lyndon Johnson-who teemed with vitality in his sixty-four years and remains enigmatic nearly four decades after his passing-comes to life." The Los Angeles riots 20 years ago were sparked by the acquittal of four L.A. police officers in the brutal beating of suspect Rodney King a year earlier. The tur- bulence that led to more than 50 deaths and $1 billion in property damage all began with a traffic violation.

Happy Cinco De Mayo ! Continued from Page 1A- The holiday of Cinco De Mayo, The 5th Of May, commemo- rates the victory of the Mexican militia over the French army at The Battle Of Puebla in 1862. It is primarily a regional holiday celebrated in the Mexican state capital city of Puebla and throughout the state of Puebla, with some limited recognition in other parts of Mexico, and especially in U.S. cities with a significant Mexican population. It is not, as many people think, Mexico's Independence Day, which is actually September 16. For the most part, the holiday of Cinco de Mayo is more of a regional holiday in Mexico, celebrated most vigorously in the state of Puebla. There is some limited recog- nition of the holiday throughout the country with different levels of enthusiasm, but it's nothing like that found in Puebla. Celebrating Cinco de Mayo has become increasingly popular along the U.S.-Mexico border and in parts of the U.S. that have a high population of people with a Mexican heritage. In these areas the holiday is a celebration of Mexican culture, of food, music, beverage and customs unique to Mexico. Commercial interests in the United States and Mexico have also had a hand in pro- moting the holiday, with products and services focused on Mexican food, beverages and festivities, with music playing a more visible role as well. Several cities throughout the U.S. hold parades and concerts during the week following up to May 5th, so that Cinco de Mayo has become a bigger holiday north of the border than it is to the south, and being adopted into the holiday calendar of more and more people every year. 214-938-4389 May 3 - 9, 2012 The Dallas Post Tribune Page 9A 80th BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION of Dr. Mildred Jean Bell

To her daughters, Cherie McMillan and Harolyn Stephens, their mother, Dr. Mildred Bell, represents the embodiment of what is good, righteous, and admirable. Though her service to others as a Christian and an educator speak far more than anything they could say or do, their love, respect, and devotion to her propelled them to celebrate her eightieth birthday and forty-fifth marriage anniversary at a gala affair at Greenville Avenue Church of Christ on Saturday, April 14, 2012 at 5:30 p.m. The Celebration commenced with a Prelude video of Dr. Bell's developmental phases. The entire evening was graced by the melodious acappella music sung by One Accord, the Greenville Avenue Chorus, under the direction of Kelvin Alexander. Author Angela Clay, also moderator during the program, led the Birthday Celebration Processional. Included in the Processional were significant others who later spoke about the vital Presenter, Ms. Annie Greene, “Older Sister” roles they played in Dr. Bell's life from infancy to the present. A congregational song, "Our God, He is Presenter, Ms. Mary Willis, “Younger Sister” Alive", was led by Gerald Sarpy, followed by a prayer by William Simmons. Following are the significant others according to the DEVELOPMENTAL phase they presented, as well as their earlier and current positions: INFANCY-LATE CHILDHOOD, Annie Greene, older sister; ADOLES- CENCE, Mary Willis, younger sister; EARLY ADULT- HOOD, Deralyn Riles-Davis, college roommate/14th South Central Regional Director, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.; Ernest Wyrick, teacher-Church of Christ at Lawrence and Marder/Business Manager of the Church of Christ on Marsalis Avenue; Dr. Theodore Lee, Jr., Principal of George Washington Elementary School/CEO of the Dallas Post Tribune; MIDDLE AGE- LATER LIFE, Dr. Wright Lassiter, Jr., President of El Centro College/Chancellor of the Dallas County Community College District; Dr. Shelton Gibbs, III, Minister of the Church of Christ on Greenville Avenue; Presenter, Mr. Ernest Wyrick, FAMILY, Cherie McMillan and Harolyn Stephens, chil- Presenter, Mrs. Deralyn Riles-Davis, “Former Bible Class Teacher” dren; Colvin Stephens, II and Colvalyn Stephens, “College Roommate” grandchildren; and husband, Harold Bell. Ms. Boston is the recipient of numerous awards, including a 1995 Tony Award for Best Featured Actress in a Musical for her performance as "Queenie" in the Broadway Musical, Show Boat; a 1995 Theatre World Award for Outstanding Broadway Debut Artist; and a 1999 nomination for a Tony Award for Best Featured Actress in a Musical for her performance in Ain't Nothin' But the Blues. The Spirit-filled REAFFIRMATION OF MARITAL VOWS for Mr. and Mrs. Harold Bell, officiated by Dr. Shelton Gibbs, III, followed. A wonderful Reception climaxed the evening. Family and friends interacted while enjoying edibles from five food stations and feasting on multiple cakes fashioned in the shape of gift boxes. Members of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. encircled Dr. Bell, a Presenter, Dr. Theodore Lee, Jr., “Former Principal” member since 1951, as they sang their Sorority hymn.
