The Dutch star dropped just seven games in three matches en route to winning her ninth title at the event, beating unseeded compatriot Jiske Griffioen 62 61 in the final. Like Kunieda and Vergeer, Norfolk will arrive in New York as the world No. 1, having dropped behind American David Wagner during five months out of the sport to con- centrate on his family life. However, after becoming a father for the second time in July, the British player had already ensured he would reclaim the top spot from Wagner in his comeback tournament before beating him 76(7) 67(3) 62 in the quad singles final in St. Louis. Shingo Kunieda (JPN) receives his Ammerlaan and Vink eased to the men’s doubles titles, while Griffioen partnered commemorative ball from St. Louis fellow Dutchwoman Sharon Walraven to victory in the women’s doubles. The women’s field also features seven of the world’s top eight, including French former world No. 2 Florence Alix-Gravellier, for whom the US Open will be the last tournament of her career before retiring. Norfolk and Wagner are set to renew their rivalry in a quad singles field that features the world’s top four players.
