Kawaha Point School 28 November 2019

Kaimanga Reo have been doing lots of fun learning through Science. After learning about water, climate change, plants & pollination we learned about wetlands and the health of Papatūānuku. One of our activities was to do a Visual Soil Assessment (VSA). We went to different parts of the school and dug up sections to check 3 things: 1. Soil Structure (Soil is separated into units called soil aggregates. An aggregate is made up of solids and pore space). 2. Soil Porosity (The space between particles is called pore space. Pore space determines the amount of water that soil can hold. Porosity refers to how many pores, or holes, a section of soil has). 3. Worms (Worms and other insects living in the soil is a good indication that the soil is healthy. Overall, the samples and observations we made tell us that the soil at Kawaha Pt School is in a healthy condition. Kawaha Point School 28 November 2019
