Oh how I’d love to participate in face- to-face meetings and see the friends I’ve made over the past seven years as a member of the Chap- ter. Irene and I have always felt so welcome at our events and enjoyed the camaraderie of the mem- bers. The pandemic has made it impossible for us to get together unless we stay in our cars and are six feet away from one another while wearing masks. There were two times when we were able to see each other but I only made it to the one at Seneca Creek Park. It was fun and sparsely attended as we expected. Nevertheless it was fun. As you know from previous “Commanders” I didn’t make it to the tour out in western Virginia but enough members did to make it a success under the pandemic conditions. -

Inline Tube - At the Chicago - Muscle Car & Corvette Nationals 210 For years we have been saying if someone created a show for all national winning muscle cars it would be off the hook. It has now happened. In 2008 Bob Ashton has took over and reorganized the Chicago Chevy Vette Show to include all muscle cars and re-named the show "Muscle Car & Corvette Nationals". The show is now open to all makes and models of muscle cars. What makes this show truly unique is that it is an autorama style show that is all indoor and under one roof. The cars are displayed with information telling about the particular cars and the hoods, trunks and doors are open and many with the wheels off to show every detail of the restoration. This is a application entry show so you must send in photos of your car for consideration to be accepted into the show field. This year there were over 500 cars on the show floor and the competition was stiff. This show will certainly turn into one of the premier events for muscle car showings in the country. Inline tube was proud to display our 1972 442 W-30 with the many customer cars on the show floor. Inline tube is a company that manufactures high quality concourse level restoration parts for classic cars and trucks. We attend events to show car guys that; with some hard work and the right parts your project could turn out like ours. At this event there was no shortage of high end cars displaying Inline Tube products. -

Its purpose was to dig deeper into that facts as to why Ford was doing poorly during the 1970’s and not in others times through the use of historical resources and through an interview of someone who experienced these events. Biography Vincent Sheehy was born in Washington DC in 1928. Throughout his life he has lived in the Washington DC and today he resides in Virginia. After graduating from Gonzaga High School he went to Catholic University for college and got a BA in psychology. His father offered him a job into the car business, which was the best offer available to him at the time. He started out a grease rack mechanic and did every job in the store at the Ford on Georgia Ave in the 50’s. He worked as a mechanic in the parts department and became a owner until he handed down the dealership to his kids. He got married to his wife in 1954 and currently has 5 kids. He is interested in golf, skiing and music. When he was younger he participated in the Board of Washington Opera. -

Tom Daniel Grew up in Southern California, a Perfect Place for a Teenager with a Fascination for Cars and the Ability to Draw Th
How many car owners are fortunate enough to have their vehicles featured on a maga- zine cover-much less several in one year? Tom Daniel’s artwork graced three covers in ’65. A wild T-bucket was the single image for the January issue. The June issue shows Tom’s version of a custom Model A woodie. This showstopper would fit in right now as the new millennium woodie. The radical ’32 coupe on September’s cover would be center stage at today’s car show. In the corner of the June ’67 issue is Tom’s rendering of R&C’s "Volksrod" project. One of Tom’s restyling ideas for the new ’67 Camaro was found on the January ’67 cover. Here’s a Daniel rendering that made it to one of street rodding’s most recognizable Track Ts. Tom was given the assignment for the January ’73 issue to design some different Track Ts around an early ‘70s Datsun run- Tom Daniel grew up in Southern ning gear. The Minhocao elevated highway case study in São Paulo/ Brazil Abstract São Paulo of the 20th century was a city built for cars. The Avenue Plan ruled how the city would grow, and consequently, how its population would live. Amongst other consequences, the city slowly lost access to public spaces and to a more humanized scale. Nowadays this situation has been facing some changes: people started to claim for new uses of the built environment engaging with concepts of spatial democracy. This paper will explore one case study within São Paulo (Brazil): The Minhocão, a soon-to-be deactivated elevated highway, and the debates involving a range of actors over the future of the structure. Considering urban land as a commodity, especially when it comes to its road system, it is difficult to separate the uses of any space without understanding them as a repercussion of the power of capital or governing influences. The main challenge is to understand how to make public spaces and the cities more democratic, and, in this sense, how to recognize the potential city spaces can have. A city that was once ruled by the automotive planning, today is repurposing itself through popular demands. But the palimpsest of an era will prevail in its landscape. -

Emergency Response Guide A Gasoline-Electric Hybrid Prepared for Fire Service, Law Enforcement, Emergency Medical and Professional Towing Personnel By American Honda Motor Co., Inc., May 2001 Location of Key Components Fuel Lines Fuel Tank Gasoline Engine IPU Compartment Electric Motor with High- Transmission Voltage Battery 12V High-Voltage Battery Cables 12V Battery IPU Compartment Gasoline Engine, with High- Electric Motor & Voltage Battery Transmission High-Voltage Fuel Tank Cables 2 Vehicle Description Type, Size, Shape & Materials The Insight is a two-passenger gasoline-electric hybrid, the first vehicle sold in North America that utilizes both a conventional gasoline engine and a battery-powered electric motor for power. The Insight can be identified by its aerodynamic shape and rear fender skirts, as illustrated on the front cover, and by the Insight logo and the words “Gasoline-Electric Hybrid” on the rear hatch. The chassis and most components are made of aluminum, some parts are plastic, and a few are made of magnesium. Gasoline Engine The Insight’s main power source is a conventional 1.0 liter, 3- cylinder gasoline engine, located under the hood. Electric Motor During start-up and acceleration, the gasoline engine is assisted by an ultra-thin (2.3 inch/60mm wide) electric motor, located between the engine and the transmission. During braking and Gasoline Engine Electric Motor 12V Battery deceleration, the motor acts as a generator to recharge the high- voltage battery and the 12-volt battery. Turning the ignition switch to either the Accessory (I) or the Lock (0) position turns off the gasoline engine and the electric motor. -
