A small selection of school supplies is also offered. Each grade is scheduled separate class time to attend the fair. “This year, I decided to promote the classroom wish list,” librar- ian Mary Lynn Obritsch said. The teachers picked out books that they would like to have for their classrooms. “The Kerrobert Kinettes gave a donation of $250, which was divided equally among Kindergarten to Grade 8, and parents supported the program as well,” which enabled Obritsch to purchase many of the desired books for the classes. This school fundraiser augments the library budget KCS re- ceives from the school division, increasing Obritsch’s ability to obtain new stock for the library. She solicits input from the students on what books they’d like to ensure the selections are going to be enjoyed. The book fair is usually held during student-led conferences, en- abling parents to attend in the evenings after they have finished their interviews with teachers. Obritsch tries to schedule the fair near the end of November, just in time for Christmas shopping. Scholastic Book Fair comes out with a theme every year, which Obritsch uses as a guideline to decorate the library. “I close down the library on the Monday and Tuesday to decorate, helped by creative Grade 11 and 12 students. In regards to the tragic loss of Rosetown volunteer Fireman Darrell James Mor- rison, I want to encourage everyone to be as safe as you can out on these roads. The weather changes rapidly and can change conditions from good to very haz- ardous in minutes. Temperature changes can create fog to reduce visibility or icy conditions etc. so you need to be aware and adapt to those changes. If you know the road conditions are poor, re-evaluate the importance of you even going out onto them. We are blessed to have such fantastic emergency services here and I rest easier knowing they are here in case of emergency, but we need to do our part to eliminate the chance for bad situations to happen so that they aren’t being put in harm’s way. Our Fire and Rescue Department, EMT and Police ser- vices are on the front lines and aren’t just here if there is a fire. Vehicle accidents are increasing and these individuals put themselves in harm’s way so others can be safe. I can’t thank them all enough for what they do and they certainly make us all very proud. Thank you !

Many of you have noticed a slowdown in work activity in the area. It makes me very thankful that Enbridge is replacing their Line 3 as we speak. The oil sector is taking another hit and it is the slowest that I have seen it in 20 years. Heavy oil companies are shutting in the majority of their wells because the price of oil is so low, they can’t get a fair price which in turn they are better off leaving the oil in the ground or they will lose money because there is nowhere to sell it at a fair price. is losing $80 million per day by selling to the United States. We need the Keystone pipeline completed in order to get our oil to over sea countries that will pay a fair price. It is beyond me why Prime Minister Trudeau would pay $4 billion dollars for a pipeline with no intention of complet ing or utilizing. He has ensured Oshawa that their General Motors workers would be looked after following the planned shutdown of their plant. What about the tens of thousands of people who have lost their jobs in the oil sec tor. He says the oil is in crisis yet does nothing about it. We all feel the effects of a poor economy. People want to invest in our Town and Province but hold off when the markets are so unstable. I think we will see a few things moving forward but it is hard to gain any traction with these setbacks. I will stop my rant there before I go on too long.

This will be my only letter for the month of December so on behalf of myself, Town Council and our staff, I would like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and hopefully many blessings in the New Year.

Mayor Wayne Mock Did you know? The gazebo in the Luseland Park was a building project completed by the Luse- land Canada Day Committee in 2010 to commemorate Luseland’s 100th birth- day? Funding was provided by the “Building Communities through Arts and Culture” and the Luseland Canada Day Committee. Each Christmas season the Canada Day Committee looks forward to decorating and lighting up the gazebo to add some Christmas spirit to the park.
