In her first four seasons, the Gators won the 2016 Southeastern Conference Championships and the 2019 SEC regular- gatorsgym season titles. The Gators join many other collegiate gymnastics teams across the nation in wearing yellow ribbons to honor Melanie Coleman. After suffering spinal injuries following an uneven bars training fall, the Southern Connecticut State junior died on Nov. 10, 2019.

Gators won NCAA individual event titles in each of the last four Returning All-Americans: Six with 17 honors seasons. Bridget Sloan won the 2016 NCAA all-around and shared Alyssa Baumann 2019 – beam; 2018 – beam, floor that season’s uneven bars and balance beam titles. Alex McMurtry Rachel Gowey 2018 bars, beam (NCAA & regular season won the 2017 NCAA all-around champion and shared that season’s uneven bars crown. She finished her career by claiming a share of Amelia Hundley 2018 bars; 2017 all-around (NCAA & regular season), bars the 2018 vault title. In 2019, Alicia Boren claimed a share of the Savannah 2019 vault NCAA floor title. The Honda Award for gymnastics went to Sloan Schoenherr (2016) and McMurtry (2017), distinguishing them as the nation’s top collegiate gymnast. McMurtry was part of a rare double in 2017 and Megan Skaggs 2019 bars 2018, claiming both the SEC Gymnast (2017)/SEC Event Specialist Trinity Thomas 2019 all-around, bars, floor (NCAA & regular season), beam (2018) and the SEC Scholar-Athlete awards.

Gator Gymnastics Meet Notes

Eight members of the Gator gymnastics team have been a part of their national teams. The Gators’ 2019 season set a school-record average of 8,333 per meet. Sophomore Trinity Thomas is the only current member of the U.S Senior National Team also on a 2020 NCAA roster. She became the fourth gymnast on a collegiate roster (and first since 2011) to earn an international medal when U.S. took team gold at 2018 Senior Pan American Championships in Lima, Peru. She was runner-up in all-around and uneven bars at the event. She competed at the 2016 and 2017 Jesolo Trophy event and was the U.S. representative in the 2018 Tokyo World Cup, taking second in the all-around.

Junior Alyssa Baumann was part of the U.S.’s gold medal team at the 2014 World Championships in Nanning, China. The three-time U.S. Senior Team member also competed on the U.S. gold-medal teams at the 2014 and 2015 events. Gowey joined her on the 2014 roster for the Jesolo event.
