Written by Ciara, LaShawn Daniels, Rodney Jerkins, and 50 Cent, this is the fourth release and the official third single from the album (see 2007 in Music). It was requested for mainstream city radio stations on June 12, 2007 and rhythmic stations on July 10, 2007. The song is a 1980s inspired mid-tempo ballad, featuring 808 drums. Ciara described it as a great record and said she invited 50 Cent for some taste. It was originally called Dope Boys. The background of Can't Leave'em Alone, along with That's Right, was originally a contender for the second single in the U.S. and the first in the world from the album, and the poll was posted on ciara's MySpace page to help fans decide, but another Like a Boy contestant was chosen over both songs. Later, So Hard was confirmed as the third single in the United States, while That's Right would serve as the third international, but Can't Leave 'em Alone unexpectedly replaced both songs. The composition Can't Leave 'em Alone is an ode to hooded boys, fastened with a pair of 50 Cent verses, featuring a light groove. The critical reception of Can't Leave'em Alone received mixed reviews from music critics. Contactmusic.com published can't leave them alone is a mouth-watering smouldering groove, with a reviewer going on to say that it was supposed to be the first single, and that it has a cross over the potential that we see from Nelly and Kelly Rowland's Dilemma and is just another Darkchild classic. Ken Barnes of the band USA called the song pop soul pastry. Other reviewers were more critical of the song. PopMatters' Cibula posted that it was a very bad pop song and criticised the use of 50 Cent as a sexual bad boy. Christian Klad of Rolling Stone published Ciara's still prone to diva blandness and silly little pop songs, which pulls down 50 Cent feature 'Can't Leave'em Alone' Maccade Selah of The Village Voice called the song lifeless. The performance on the Can't Leave'em Alone chart was a moderate success in the United States. Six weeks after the official release, the single debuted at number 90 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100. The song slowly rose in the charts with moderate ethereal and digital sales. In the end it peaked at 40th place. It also peaked at number 24 on The Hot 100 Airplay. It became Ciara's tenth single in the top ten of the U.S. Hot R'B/Hip-Hop Songs chart and peaked at number one in the Rhythm Top 40. The single was never sent to mainstream radio formats and failed to recognize the charts on the Pop 100. Despite its lacklustre radio performance, the single was certified by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) to sell more than 500,000 digital copies in the United States. In international markets, Can't Leave'em Alone debuted at number 40 and peaked at number four, becoming Siara's fifth single in New York. The song failed to reach the UK chart, reaching a disappointing number 115. The single peaked at low positions in China, Germany and Poland. The Fat Cats music video was filmed on June 9, 2007, and June 10, 2007 in Atlanta, Georgia. Three screenshots from the clip were released on June 14, 2007, and the fourth screenshot with her and 50 Cent was released on June 27, 2007. The music video was supposed to premiere on Yahoo!
