The series began on January 7, as Definitive Flash Gordon and Jungle Jim: v. 1 American newspaper comic strip chronicling the adventures of Asia-based hunter Jim Bradley, who was nicknamed Jungle Jim. The character also trekked through radio, film, comic book and television adaptations. The strip concluded on August 8, Illustrator Alex Raymond and pulp magazine author Don Moore created the original strip as a topper to run above Raymond's Flash Gordon. Jungle Jim and Flash Gordon were launched simultaneously on January 7, Don Moore Definitive Flash Gordon and Jungle Jim: v. 1 to script through the succession of artists. The femme fatale Lille DeVrille was added to the cast two years after the strip's debut. The comic's early years generally featured stories revolving around piratesslave traders and other common jungle antagonists. As World War II approached, Jungle Jimlike many American comicsdeveloped a wartime theme, with Jim fighting the Japaneseand it moved from its position as a topper strip to Definitive Flash Gordon and Jungle Jim: v. 1 own independent Sunday page. The Flash Gordon material is without a doubt classic, this also features the original Alex Raymond Jungle Jim toppers. The huge size, however does not mean the strips are large, in fact they still look quite small in order to fit both FG and JJ strips on a single page. The reproduction of the strips is generally sharp. For those not wanting to read it in its original format or without the Jungle Jim topper strips might prefer to get the Titan Flash Gordon reprints as they are a better format for reading and are slightly more enlarged than seen here.
