Events & Activities to Enhance Any Visit to The BROADMOOR The BROADMOOR is located in the heart of one of the most beautiful and historic places on Earth. The Pikes Peak region abounds with dozens of attractions that are open year-round and appeal to sightseers, nature, sports and adventure-minded travelers of every age. The attractions provide for the perfect family vacation, and for those who arrive by air, The BROADMOOR can assist in arranging transportation for sightseeing with numerous local companies. All driving times are approximate and in parenthesis. Here is just a brief glimpse at the world of friendly attractions available in the Pikes Peak and Colorado Springs area: The Broadmoor’s Seven Falls – Known as “The Grandest Mile of Scenery in Colorado” Walk along a box canyon through amazing rock formations. An express elevator tunnels into the mountainside and goes 130 feet up to the Eagle’s Nest Platform. A 224-step stairway beside the falls leads to panoramic overlooks of Colorado Springs and eastern Colorado. Opening August 2015. (5 minutes) (719) 632-0765 The Broadmoor’s Pikes Peak Cog Railway – Travel on the World’s Highest cog train, ascending Pikes Peak, 14,115 feet, in all seasons. See the magnificent panoramas that inspired the song “America the Beautiful.” Cog Railway round-trip is 3 hours, 10 minutes. (25 minutes) (719) 685-5401 The Broadmoor’s World Arena and Ice Hall – Presenting special events, concerts and shows in the 8,500 seat World Arena. Recognized facilities for USA figure skating, USA ice hockey, and USA short-track speed skating and home to the Colorado College hockey team. Public skating is offered at the Ice Hall. (7 minutes) (719) 477-2150 Cave of the Winds – Spelunk at the oldest attraction in the Pikes Peak region, where visitors can choose from three tours through subterranean chambers to get different perspectives on Colorado’s geological wonders. (30 minutes) (719) 685-5444 Cheyenne Mountain Zoo – Explore America’s “highest” zoo, at 6,800 feet on 50 acres, with more than 950 diverse and exotic creatures, with breathtaking views of the city from the Will Rogers Shrine of the Sun monument above the zoo (weather permitting). (5 minutes) (719) 633-9925 Garden of the Gods – Sightsee at this 1,300-acre park, a Registered National Natural Landmark, of towering red sandstone rock formations is set at the foot of Pikes Peak. Walking and horse trails, picnic facilities and a visitor’s center make this a great family experience. (25 minutes) (719) 634-6666 Manitou Springs Cliff Dwellings and Museum – Opened in 1907, the museum includes some of the finest architecture of the Cliff Dwelling Anasazi Indians. The outdoor preserve demonstrates the Anasazi’s fine stonework with a dwelling of over 40 rooms that can be explored on a self-guided tour. (30 minutes) (800) 354-9971 Manitou Springs – Tour a historic Victorian town nestled at the foot of Pikes Peak offering boutique shopping, mineral springs, casual or fine dining and art galleries. Manitou Springs is home of The Broadmoor’s Pikes Peak Cog Railway, and the Cliff Dwellings Museum. The castle features nine styles of architecture ranging from English Tudor to Byzantine, all crafted from locally quarried greenstone and yellow pine framing. Today Miramont is a museum dedicated to preserving the Victorian heritage of Manitou Springs. (25 minutes) (719) 685-1011 Mollie Kathleen Gold Mine – Discovered by Mollie Kathleen Gortner in 1891, it was shortly proclaimed “The World’s Greatest Gold Camp.” Visitors can descend the country’s only 1,000-foot vertical mine shaft and gold mine tour. (1 hour 15 minutes) (719) 689-2466 Old Colorado City – Visit blocks of diverse shops featuring handcrafted and imported items, boutiques, antiques, toys and a magic emporium along with restaurants serving everything from family fare to fine dining. (20 minutes) (719) 633-6767 Pikes Peak: America’s Mountain – Reaching 14,115 feet, scenic Pikes Peak is accessible by car or by taking The Broadmoor’s Pikes Peak Cog Railway (weather permitting). It is home of the Pikes Peak Hill Climb, the second oldest car race in America, and the Pikes Peak Marathon. Katharine Lee Bates penned “America the Beautiful” in 1893 after visiting the summit. (40 minutes) (719) 385-7325 Pro Rodeo Hall of Fame and Museum of the American Cowboy – Located adjacent to the national headquarters of the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association, this is the only museum in the United States devoted exclusively to the sport of rodeo. (25 minutes) (719) 528-4764 Royal Gorge Bridge and Park – See the world’s highest suspension bridge, 956 feet above the Arkansas River. There are also several attractions available at the park. Located at the United States Figure Skating Association national headquarters, which is adjacent to The BROADMOOR. Offers striking vistas of the surrounding Colorado Springs area, and is weather permitting.
