July 2016 - 29 MSI SSI Growing Confidence and Demand for our Products Reflected in Exports or Turkey, the defence and aerospace industry is a crucially important sector and one that is continually developing. As Fis the case elsewhere in the world, the development of the defence and aerospace industry in our country is particularly focused on technology and innovation. To become globally competitive, we need an industry that does not just import, but also engages in export oriented-manufacturing and the export of high technology. We should be investing more in R&D and the manufacturing higher value added products. Fully aware of this necessity and determined to make further progress, we are advancing on our course by gaining new assets on a daily basis. The support we receive from the relevant ministries and the government, and our extensive cooperation with the Undersecretariat for Defence Industries (SSM), have significantly contributed to the development of the industry. In this context, we feel encouraged by the industry’s awareness of the notable support given to R&D. Owing to its broad product range with superior capabilities, the Turkish defence and aerospace industry now enjoys a favoured position from which it is even able to set the standards. We have the MPT-76 National Infantry Rifle, the ATAK helicopter, land vehicles, and amphibious vehicles. Our industry is strong and offers indigenous solutions tailored for different needs. All of these products are the most proficient in their respective classes, and are much sought in international markets. The Turkish defence and aerospace industry continues to manufacture indigenously designed products with superior characteristics that are demanded worldwide. KORAL, one of the products manufactured by Turkish defence companies has significant export potential owing to its uniquely superior features in the field of electronic attack and support. Similarly, the fact that the SOM missile will be used in various platforms, including the F-35 next generation fighter jet, is a source of great prestige for the Turkish defence and aerospace industry. Our first two ships built within the context of the MİLGEM national ship project have been in active service since 2011 and 2013, respectively. Our industry is not limited to developing land, air and sea platforms, and offers users significant services and products in the field of software and simulations. During the Efes 2016 Exercise, we were all able to watch the successful performance of Turkish defence and aerospace industry products. These achievements have led to a growing confidence and demand for our products in international markets. This growing demand is also reflected in our export figures. With the increasing momentum in exports, by the end of this year’s first five months our export figures had increased by 18 percent, compared with the same period last year. The promotional activities of the Turkish Defence Alliance (TDA) – our own Promotion Group – will assume a crucial role in ensuring the continuity of these successes. Promotion and marketing are the primary key elements that will help us to achieve our objectives, which is why we have such great expectations from the TDA. For Turkey’s successful future, we will have to continue to work, produce and succeed.

Birol TEKİNCE: According to the defence capability programme, some of the priorities of Bulgarian Defence Policy are: maintaining good neighbourly relations and guaranteeing regional security and stability; development of regional Black Sea cooperation; preventing and countering corruption and organized crime; contribution to UN, NATO and EU-led operation consistent with the national resources. regional defence cooperation architec- ture in SEE, we considered that the next logical step is to establish a practical, project-oriented and unified structure for cooperation in order to harness the synergies between the countries in the region. Due to the recognized need to push the defence cooperation forward Bulgaria proposed a new approach, namely SEEDECFO. The SEEDEFCO’s aim is to serve as a project-based platform for flexible regional defence cooperation, where all states can initiate projects in ac- cordance with their own interests and needs. Given the shared challenges and the budgetary pressures across the re- gion, other states would be free to join any one of these projects in accordance with their own interest. States can gradually define primary areas of coop- eration (for example: operations, train- ing and exercises) in which they can take the lead. Such unified approach could build on the work of the plethora of existing processes with overlapping mandates and membership. 54 - July 2016 Chief of Department: We look at com- munication -or rather, the subject of intra-organisational communication- from two different angles. First of all, to ensure the success of institutional development initiatives, we, as the party responsible for implementing and mon- itoring each development project, have to increase the level of awareness of the Land Forces family about these proj- ects, while also making sure that it be- lieves in and embraces the development we hope to foster. Secondly, to ensure the maturation of our projects, we’ve got to ensure both individual and insti- tutional participation and contribution. Consequently, effective intra-organisa- tional communication is vital both for managing and ensuring the sustainabil- ity of institutional development.
