AFFORDABLE $$ AUDIO Audience Cables: Conductor e Series Interconnects, Speaker Cables, & PowerChord By Anthony Nicosia [email protected] Conductor e Interconnect RCA Specifications: $391 for 1 meter pair $399 for 1.5 meter pair Conductor e speaker cable: Specifications: $601 for a three meter pair powerChord e power cable: Specifications: $674 for one six foot length Telephone 800-565-4390 [email protected] Having heard wonderful things about Audience prod- ucts, especially their cables, I have long since wondered what they would sound like in my review system. My keen interest in their products stem from a time long before I started writing reviews for Affordable$$Audio and I am happy today to finally have a chance to satisfy my desire to explore some of the fine products. Audience has been around since 1997 starting out under the guidance of its two co-founders, John McDonald and the late Richard Smith. Although Audience is known for its fabulous cables they also make a new line of loudspeakers, power amplifiers, pre- amplifiers, power conditioners, loudspeaker drivers, a disc treatment system, and of course their famous high resolu- tion capacitors. Having had the pleasure of talking to Mr. McDonald on the phone I can say he has both a wealth of knowledge and a great deal of enthusiasm for his products. He was kind enough to offer to outfit my entire system with Audience cables in order that I might get the full effect of using his products. I was sent four power cords, for the power conditioning strips and mono block amplifiers, a three meter length of speaker cables and three sets of inter- connects.

  • Gary Clark, Jr
GARY CLARK, JR. 21st Century Blues The last two years have yielded a dizzying RISING FROM AUSTIN parade of triumphs for Gary Clark, Jr., the 28-year-old artist from Austin, Texas. With the by Tom Hyslop force of Warner Brothers Records behind him, Clark has received a promotional push that rivals that of any mainstream artist, one that certainly exceeds anything witnessed in the blues realm at least since the 1980s, with the mainstream breakouts of Stevie Ray Vaughan and Robert Cray, and possibly since the highly-publicized signing of Johnny Winter by Columbia Records in 1969. In the course of the blitz, Clark has performed at every major festival, including Coachella, SXSW, Made In America, Bonnaroo, Summerfest, Lollapalooza, Dave Mathews Band Caravan, Newport Folk Fest, Electric Forest, Sasquatch! Festival, Mountain Jam, and others, along with dates in the most coveted clubs; received ink in a dizzying variety of publications, from MOJO and SPIN to such unexpected settings as Esquire, Vanity Fair, and even the mainstream Entertainment Weekly, with recurring coverage in Rolling Stone, including a five- star rating for his debut EP on Warners, in a write-up that led off the review section; and made appearances on the major late-night shows: Conan, The Late Show with David Letterman, Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. He has taped an episode of Austin City Limits as headliner. A fragment of “Bright Lights” provided the soundtrack to a major mobile phone provider’s ubiquitous TV advertisement, and the video for “Ain’t Messin’ ‘Round” received regular rotation on VH1, America’s almost univer- sally available cable music television channel.

  • Luther Johnson – Telarc.Com Luther “Guitar Junior” Johnson Is One of the Premier Blues Artists to Emerge from Chicago's
Luther Johnson – telarc.com Luther “Guitar Junior” Johnson is one of the premier blues artists to emerge from Chicago’s music scene. Hailing from Itta Bena, Mississippi, Johnson arrived in Chicago in the mid-fifties a young man. At around the same time, the West Side guitar style, a way of playing alternating stinging single-note leads with powerful distorted chords, was being created mostly by Magic Sam and Otis Rush. Originally developed because their small bands could not afford both lead and rhythm guitar players, this style grew into an important contribution to modern blues and rock, influencing such notables as Eric Clapton and Mark Knopfler. Johnson served a long sideman apprenticeship with both Magic Sam and Muddy Waters, while developing into a strong performer in his own right. Today, Luther is widely considered the foremost proponent of the West Side guitar style and the heir apparent to the late Magic Sam’s West Side throne. Luther Johnson first gained an international reputation as a guitarist and vocalist with Muddy Waters’ band, touring the U.S., Europe, Japan and Australia from 1973-79. Given the opportunity to front the band on his featured tunes in each show, Johnson’s super-charged performances consistently thrilled audiences in the world’s leading concert halls, including Carnegie Hall, Kennedy Center and Radio City Music Hall as well as at music festivals in Newport, Antibes, New Orleans and countless others. During his association with Muddy Waters, Johnson also shared the stage with The Rolling Stones, Eric Clapton, The Allman Brothers and Johnny Winter.

© Matthieu FAURE – Brenda TURNNIDGE Wherever they play, Boney Fields and The Bone’s Project leave behind them a lasting impression. Like a high energy gunpowder trail, dispensing a cross of blues and funk which unites and rallies the masses in a heavenly musical communion. Fronted by the dynamic, trumpet player, singer/songwriter Boney Fields, the combo has gained a bigger and bigger following. The bowler-hatted musician has come a long way since founding his own band, ten years ago. If he comes from Chicago Blues, he has expanded the contours with an iron willed determination. A lover of soul, groove, jazz, Boney Fields knows, as do certain other musicians of his generation, that the life of blues exists through constant evolution and rejuvenation. With humility and conviction, he follows his own path finding his own originality on the way. A man resolutely of his time, yet also immersed in the heritage of his musical forefathers, Boney Fields proves that the blues still has some great days ahead of it. Romain GROSMAN (Vibrations – Jazz News – Les Inrocks …) CHANGING FOR THE FUTURE BIOGRAPHY Boney Fields hails from the Chicago ghetto, where he was born at the end of the fifties.
