By its very nature a supplementry is not something new but rather an adjunct or continuation of the parent volume. Supplements were issued from time to time to the Gazetteer Volumes published in the old series. The object of issuing such supplements to District Gazetteers is to update the statistical data contained in the parent volume.

The second revised edition of the Ratnagiri District Gazetteer was published in 1962 by the Gazetteers Department. The present volume is intended to supplement the information contained in the revised edition by more recent statistice. Every attempt has been made to bring the statistical data as up-to-date as possible.

Tourist Facilities.- There are two holiday camp in Ratnagiri district one each at Amboli in Sawantwadi tehsil and at Ganpatipule in Ratnagiri tahsil. Of them, the construction work of the Amboli holiday camp is completed recently, while the construction work of 12 blocks at the holidaycamp of Ganpatipule is in progress. There are as many as six blocks in the Amboli holiday camp.

The development plans of the seven municipal councils in the Ratnagiri district have already been prepared and sanctioned by the Government under the provisions of Maharashtra Regional and Town Planning Act, 1966 as mentioned below :-

The revised Development plan of the Malvan municipal council has been prepared, while the Draft Town Planning Schemes of the Chiplun and Khed municipal councils have been sanctioned by the Government. The work of preparation of Draft Town Planning Scheme of Ratnagiri No. 1 and No. 2 is in progress.

For implementation of the Town Planning Schemes of seven municipal councils in the district, the Government have sanctioned Rs. 2.11 lakhs, Rs. 9.5 lakhs and Rs. 15 lakhs for 1975-76, 1976-77 and 1977-78 respectively.

In addition on the above, Zonal Plan for the Kudal, Pinguli and Nerur villages is also prepared where the industrial area of the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation is located. Besides, Zonal Plan of Lanja and its surrounding villages has also prepared. It is proposed to take up the work of preparation of Regional Plan for South-Konkan region (consisting mainly Ratnagiridistrict) during the Sixth Five Year Plan period.
