AMERKS DAILY PRESS CLIPS W ednesday, April 7, 2021 Amerks Return From Covid Pause W ith A Deeper Appreciation For Each Other, Organization By Suzie Cool Amerks.com Exactly one year to the day of the Rochester Americans’ last game of the 2019-20 season, it seemed as if we were living in the movie Groundhog Day. After a 3-2 shootout loss to the Utica Comets on Wednesday, Mar. 10 at the Adirondack Bank Center, the Amerks were immediately shut down due to COVID-19 protocols the very next morning. It came as a shock to everyone, especially in the sense that this year is so untraditional that it’s difficult to determine where this could even stem from in the first place. Every few days the players, coaches and hockey staff are tested prior to walking into The Blue Cross Arena, there’s plastic dividers keeping the players at a safe distance from each other in the locker room, coaches are masked at practice and games. And that’s just the start. Keep in mind the seemingly endless list of team protocols that are strongly enforced daily to ensure the health and safety of everyone. When first addressing the media over the mid-March situation that the Amerks faced, Amerks head coach Seth Appert simply said, “this was an unfortunate situation and it happened at no fault of our players.” Appert then went on to add, “I do want to really make sure that we understand that our players have been nothing but exemplary in their on-ice work ethic and competitiveness, but also in their off-ice decision-making and habits.” From March 11 on, there were five games postponed over the span of 16 days for Rochester, however, the first-year coach wanted it to be known that the organization wasn’t taking this lightly and this was to ensure that there was no mass spread and that this situation was being taken care of as soon as possible.

AMERKS DAILY PRESS CLIPS W ednesday, April 14, 2021 Amerks Sign Three To Professional Tryouts By Staff Report Amerks.com The Rochester Americans announced today that the team has signed forwards Brent Gates and Brendan Warren and goaltender Stefanos Lekkas to Professional Tryouts (PTO). Gates, 23, joins the Amerks after splitting the 2020-21 season with the Indy Fuel and Tulsa Oilers (ECHL), recording 21 points on eight goals and 13 assists in 35 games. The 6-foot-2, 196-pound forward has also notched an assist in two games with the San Diego Gulls (AHL) this season. During the 2019-20 campaign between the Gulls and Oilers, Gates combined for 14 goals and 11 assists for 25 points in 45 contests. Gates ranked second among all Tulsa rookies in goals (10) while finishing second in both assists (10) and points (20) in 25 games before the season was cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The second-year pro has appeared in 28 career AHL games with the Gulls, totaling eight points (5+3) while also adding 41 points (18+23) over 60 contests with Tulsa. Prior to turning pro, the Grand Rapids, Mich., native completed a four-year collegiate career at the University of Minnesota (Big- 10), where he registered 85 points (42+43) in 148 games with the Gophers from 2015-2019. As team captain during his senior season, Gates finished third on the team with 18 assists and 31 points, both career-highs. In addition to being a three-time member of the All Big-10 Academic team, he helped Minnesota win two-straight Big-Ten regular-season champions in 2016 and 2017.

How far we have come in such a sho... http://www.thetigerbeat.com/blog/?p=1679 « back to University News Tiger Beat Home About us » Archive » Subscribe RSS/XML Search Oct14 Joe 7,421 fans to a Tiger hockey game? How far we have come in such a short time Wow! That’s really all that needs to be said about the crowd of 7,421 fans who showed up to see the Tiger men’s hockey team battle Colgate at Blue Cross Arena on Saturday during Brick City Homecoming and Family Weekend. Many people will tell you, including myself, that the number was low—it was closer to and maybe north of 8,000 fans. What an atmosphere! The one thing that was noticeable all week, not just on campus, was the buzz surrounding this game. I went to the Democrat and Chronicle to drop off a handful of media guides to the sports department on Friday afternoon, and ended up having a nice conversation with the man at the front desk, telling me how excited he was to be going to the game. On Friday morning, the game received publicity on The Break Room on 96.5 WCMF. The one question I have after this weekend’s support, and lack thereof for the other winter professional teams in the area, is have we become the top draw? The American Hockey League’s Rochester Americans, who have been around since 1956, drew 4,124 fans for their home opener at Blue Cross Arena on Oct.

  • Winter 2020 Newsletter
Do the Right Thing of Rochester Award Program Winter 2020 Newsletter Welcome! It’s been one year since we published our first newsletter! We’ve accomplished so much this past year, most importantly, recognizing several outstanding youth and their positive role model behavior. We’ve heard some phenomenal stories of bravery, courage, growth, selflessness, and leadership, and what’s most remarkable is these children live right here in our own community. We are so proud that we are able to highlight many of these stories and share them with you! Since our last newsletter, we’ve recognized sixteen students between two ceremonies, one in December and one in February. We have also welcomed three more sponsors to the program – Bill Gray’s Regional Iceplex, the Rochester RazorSharks, and Target. We are continuously welcoming new sponsors to our program. If you know of a business that would be interested in providing gifts or services to our winners, or a financial contribution to the program, please let us know! The Do the Right Thing Award Program is a 501(c) (3) non-profit organization. We are excited to welcome Brennan Somers as the newest member of our Executive Board. Brennan works as a news anchor at News 10 NBC, and was able to attend and help MC our last two ceremonies. With Pat Taney leaving his post this past November, the position of Executive Board President is now vacant, so we hope to have elections soon to fill that position. We are also looking for more people to volunteer to serve on our Executive Board to fill several vacancies.
