WELCOME TO FANCOURT, a luxurious landmark set in ’s pristine .

From its beginnings as a lavish family home, history has transformed Fancourt into one of the world’s most esteemed golf estates.

For Yorkshire-born Henry Fancourt White, the 1880s was a time marked by opulence. It was during this period of grandeur that he became enchanted with the splendour of Outeniqualand, eventually selecting the foot of the majestic mountain range as the perfect spot to build his home.

The estate changed many owners and styles over the years, ultimately being converted into a residence named Homewood. In 1903, Henry White’s son, Ernest Montagu White, bought back the property at an auction, naming it Fancourt in honour of his late father.

A dapper and charismatic man, Ernest Montagu White made extensive improvements. Employing skilled craftsmen and sourcing indigenous yellowwood and timber, Fancourt started to resemble the national monument it is today.

After White’s tragic passing in 1916, Fancourt eventually fell into disrepair. It would remain so until 1960, when renowned brain surgeon Dr Krynauw bought the property. Thanks to his avid restoration work and his wife’s gardening skills, the estate was soon immaculately restored.

In 1989, Fancourt underwent another trans- formation. Into the award-winning hotel and golfing destination it is today.
